"I suppose thats good..." I said, surprised that he had found me so quickly. "Although if you hadn't done that they might not even have realised there was a break in until they found they were missing stuff."

"The point was for them to figure it out early, it makes them believe that they are better, in control... people who think that they're better are less careful, and might be more prone to missing a few small details. Whereas if they discovered it after a few days, and realised that the people who stole from them did it with skill, then they would be more careful and they will find more that they could use to track any one of us down, rather than believing it was just some petty thieves." Kyler replied, suprised that he had just said all that, not because he had revealed his knowledge of theft, or his view on it, but that he was lecturing someone older and more experienced than himself, though the slight suprised look on her face - she hid it well, but he knew what to look for, told him that if there was any time for a somewhat intelligent-sounding... hopefully... speech, it was now.

I gave him an appreciative nod, slightly amused by his little speech... "Well I guess that logic is sound..." I began, "Although from what I know of the council chances are they will do all they can to find the thieves anyway..." I shrugged, "No matter though, they certainly wont find anything to connect them to me." I hoped the other two could be so sure, but I had no idea what Kyler or Doc had touched. All i knew was that everything I had touched had left the building with me.

"Well, then it doesn't really make a difference then, does it?" Kyler responded with a shrug, save for the fact that they'd know it happened sooner... at least it meant that they most likely wouldn't upgrade their safety too much.
"So I take it that this is something you've been doing for quite a while." He commented, climbing up the side of the crypt and kneeling down nearby Maya once he had reached the top. It took him longer than it took her - obviously, but he had skill in climbing, and so it didn't take him as long as it would most, "may I ask how long you've been in this... business?"

I glanced sideways at him, why was he so interested in me? "A while." I replied simply.

She was trying to stop the conversation... or perhaps she just wasn't keen on revealing things to him - it wouldn't suprise him, to her he probably looked like some inexperienced teen who didn't know what he was getting himself into... which was pretty much correct... but nevertheless, most people didn't know what they were getting themselves into at first.
He decided he would be persistant, she would either get tired of him, or come to accept it. "A while? So you know your way around this sort of thing, I take it..." he replied, "ok, I know you probably don't want to reveal your contacts to me, but I'd still like to learn some of the tricks of the trade..."
Probably not the best way to get closer to this woman, make friends with her, or whatever he was attempting... but it'd do for now. There had to be something Martin wanted to know, and he had told him to find out off her... he had no clue what it was, and it was making less and less sense as he continued... was there even anything logical about this? He was beginning to have his doubts.

Wow he was persistent. Time to switch on the ice queen. "Look kid, I dont know you, and I'm not interested in getting to know you. There is no reason on hell or earth that I would start spilling my life story to some prat in a cloak I just met." I didn't add that I was quite looking forward to spending some time in LA and didn't want to have to leave because I'd been careless with a couple of guys on my first damn night.

Kyler wasn't taken back by the comment... it was one of the reactions he was expecting... one of them - she was obviously tired of him.
He smiled, and didn't say anything, before jumping backwards off the side of the crypt and landing on the somewhat soft ground beside it, a new grave, he figured, but thought nothing more of it.
"Have a nice night, Maya." He finally said as he headed off through the graveyard. This time he was confident in what he was doing: he was leaving. Annoying her further wasn't going to get him anywhere, though he strangely enjoyed that she lost her temper so quickly. He figured that he must have gotten better at controlling his own. That or she just had a short fuse... he doubted it.
He shrugged off the thought and pulled the mask over his face, preparing to disappear into the night.

I shook my head slowly, watching him go. What a strange night this had been. A grunting noise then reached me from the side of the crypt. I leant over to peer over the edge, a wry smile came to my lips as I saw a hand reaching out of the new grave, and a vampire slowly follow it. Now this was more what I had had in mind! I hopped down to stand over the grave, and waited for him.

Kyler continued out of the graveyard and made himself scarce, using the alleyways to avoid people. It was late, and he decided that he should head back to the dorms to sleep - he had class tomorrow, after all.

After the initial struggle, the vamp was out in moments, and appeared well versed in all those martial arts they seem to learn while underground. We had a bit of a dance before I sliced off his head with the wooden dagger hidden in my boot. He was dust before he hit the ground, and I felt a little more comfortable about my first night in LA. Dusting vamps was nice and normal... strange guys with wierd powers who seem to know by intuition that youre not normal and invite you to rob buildings within 5 minutes of meetin you- not so run of the mill. I shook my head again, still baffled by all that, and headed back to the little apartment I had rented earlier that day. I was wiped.
