This was gold! Kyler was getting plenty of information, and he didn't even need to do anything! Though he wasn't sure why he was getting so excited. It seemed that whoever these Watchers Council and Slayers were, everyone but him knew about them. He figured it was just the thrill of doing something for once that wasn't completely controlled by Martin, or a need to survive. He was here, listening in on new information, for him, anyway, just so that he could learn and become more experienced.
Suddenly, he had an erge to pick the lock to the roof door, sneak into the building and find any extra information he could, before Doc or Maya had the chance. Or perhaps to find something for one of them - why was he trying so hard to proove himself? Kyler pushed the thought away and continued to listen. He wasn't all too knowledgable in any of this, and it struck him, but he didn't let it show. He would listen and learn and commit anything useful to memory for now.

"Why else?" Doc snorted. "Why else would they show up, take a young girl barely old enough to remember her family, then kill said fammily just to make sure? She was a Potential," he spat the word angrily. "and they needed to make sure she was trained. Meaning a mindless, emotionless fighting machine that followed there orders. I don't even know if she's still alive?" And why the hell am I telling her this, he thought.

"A potential slayer." I said softly. I turned back to look over the city. So, his kidnapped sister was a potential. If she was still alive, she was now a slayer... and by the sounds of it, he really wasn't keen on slayers... Right, this conversation was over. I had already got too deep... how the hell did I manage that within hours of getting here? "Bummer." I said. "Sucks to be you." I swung my legs back over onto the roof and got up, ready to walk away.

Kyler looked over at Maya. The amount of information that he had to store just now was a relatively large amount, but Martin had prepared him for it, and more...and that was his plan.
"Maya," he began, bringing back a statement from before, "we still don't know what you were doing here, if you don't mind my saying, it is a little odd to find someone atop an office building at this time of night."
It was a little direct, and perhaps to some, offencive... but it wouldn't be easy to escape the question now, so direct, and if she decided to simply leave in a huff, it would only raise suspicion. It was a weak trap, but it would work... or at least Kyler hoped it would.

"Tell me about it," Doc said, moving to the spot where she had been. "Well, see ya round, maybe. If you're unlucky," with a smile he moved down the fire escape. They didn't want to help, that was fine by him. He worked better alone anyway.

Kyler intended to follow Doc, so that he could access more information about this "Watchers Council", but he was sent here to find out about Maya, and wasn't about to defy Martin's intentions just yet. So he kept his eyes on Maya, awaiting her answer - it was what he had come here for, after all; barely even responding to Doc's farewell.

I paused, wandering why this guy was so interested in what I was doing. I finally decided to tell him the simple truth, "I was just getting a lay of the land... I just moved here." The other one, Doc, was making his way down the fire escape, to a door I knew was alarmed in two different ways... I had noticed while making my assessment of the city. Most of me wanted to just walk away and leave these curious strangers to their own troubles, but some strange bit of me wanted to stay. I told myself that if the break-in was noticed, my prints were here and I would be implicated... but that was bull.... I wasn't on file, and it was easy to disappear... oh well. I shrugged slightly to myself and callled out "Wait." Just as Doc disabled the more obvious alarm. He looked up. "There's another one." I told him.

Kyler nodded approvingly... Was that it? Get a lay of the land because she just moved here? Is that all Martin wanted him to find out?
Then it got to him, there was still something not quite right about it. When one got a "lay of the land" they looked up street directories, walked around the blocks, found shopping centres and restaraunts... they didn't sit atop rooftops at night, looking around the city. This intrigued Kyler more, why was she trying to be a shadow in the night?
Many things about this woman suggested that she was definately not just an ordinary woman who had just moved here, there was a reason behind it. Doc was so forthcoming about his reason, Maya had slipped up once when she revealed her name, or at least Kyler thought it was her name, an alias, like he had, could have been just as likely... perhaps she may slip up again and reveal more.
Kyler promised in his own mind to find out more about her at a later date, right now, it seemed, she had put up her defences and wasn't willing to be asked questions. There was no point. Instead, Kyler would accompany Doc into the building and find out what he could there.
For a moment, he couldn't believe how much like Martin he was becoming - analysing everything; treating everything like a business meeting, or an information gathering session. He then headed over to Doc, awaiting for him to disable the alarms and head in first. He knew how to, himself, but there was no reason to reveal that to anyone else.

Doc looked up at her, then at the window. "Let me guess: mystical? Or did I miss a wire," he wasn't surprised he'd missed something, he wasn't the most careful of people, but he was sure there wasn't any more standard alrms, which meant something else.

I nodded, while that part of me groaned inwardly, telling me this was a mistake. "Yeh, there are magical wards... nothing too tricky... you usually just have to give something of yourself for these things, probably blood... y'know, to enter you have to weaken yourself... oldest trick in the book."

"Yeah, I know it," he said, pulling out a vial of blood. "Prepared for it, too. Okay, this is more vampire lure than a lock pick, but it'll do in a pinch," I wasn't too keen on giving them something to track me by. The blood was from the local blood bank.

I smirked. I assumed that the vial was not his own blood... it was clever, meaning he couldn't be traced... I just hoped that the wards weren't sophisicated enough to know that it wasn't fresh. "C'mon then." I urged, "I guess I better stick around or you'll be rumbled in no time."

Kyler kept quiet, he did that when he was learning. Martin had taught him discipline so that he could teach Kyler what he needed to teach him, and now he used it here. Maya had slipped up again, magical wards; Martin had taught him about magical wards and the need of self-sacrifice, he had also taught him how more simple ones could be overwhelmed by a surge of Talent, rather than requiring self-sacrifice... however, it was important to ensure that it was a more simple one, or else a surge of Talent would only set the trap off.
He moved in closer to view the trap for himself, noticing that it was a less sophisticated one - another thing Martin ensured that he learnt. Doc would easily get through with his vial, and if he knew how, Kyler was sure a surge of Talent would work also, though he fully expected him not to use his Talent here, so as to not reveal more of himself to either Kyler or Maya.

Doc spread the blood across the window sill, a shimmer signaling that it had worked. "Ladies, gentlemen and unsepcified genders," he said, opening the window. "Welcome to Evil Inc."

Kyler cringed... was that meant to be some quirky comment? He didn't let it show, however, and just went along with it.
"I suppose we should enter?" He finally decided to speak. Martin had told him the importance of patience, but Kyler just wanted to get in and find what he could.
