I smiled darkly, but did not point out that however medieval their methods, the watchers duty was ultimately meant to be against evil... from what I had heard, the old council had been fairly.... questionable... in this respect, but as far as I knew, the remaining watchers answered to Mr Giles and the Slayer called Buffy. Apparently she was sort of the original slayer or something, although it sounds like Faith had been around before the whole 'First Evil' fight too so I'm not quite sure how that worked, but that was hardly the point. I shrugged, trying not to let on that I had been distracted by internal dialogue, and looked to Doc to see how he planned to proceed.

"Alright, there's a big computer network that hooks up to the main servers in England," he said. "these are encrypted up the ass and have security apparently designed by RedWitchSD81. Major league hacker back in the day. We're no interested in those.
"We need to get into the archives. Hard copy files shipped over during the 'take over' to be digitized. What I want is in there. In, grab it, out. Easy."

"Sounds simple enough." I said. "Except of course that knowing watchers there's gonna be a whole library in there.... wanna be more specific?"

Kyler was known at times to be a little hasty and lacked some amount of patience... he wasn't here for anything in particular, like Doc might have been, he was here for information, whatever he could find that Martin might praise him for, though the man was a library, himself.
"I'm not sure about specifics, but it'll be daylight soon, and it might be a good idea to get in there and start actually doing this, rather than just standing around talking about it." Kyler's unexpected blurting might have struck the other two, not that he cared. He proceeded into the door and began down the staircase, slowly though. He might have been willing, but he wasn't stupid.

"Kid's got a point," Doc said, following after him. Okay, so maybe he could have planned this out more. But it really wasn't that hard. All they needed to do was find the mission reports for the special ops team, then the personnel files for Potentials and he should be able to locate her. Simple.
Yeah. Right.

I rolled my eyes, telling myself that the best possible thing I could do right now was turn around and head back to my crummy motel.... So I followed them in. I knew it wasn't going to be as easy as they thought, and frankly I didn't care, but for some reason I wanted to see how this all panned out.

Kyler headed to a door, some way down the stairwell. He looked back to see Doc and Maya also carefully decending the staircase - they obviously weren't stupid either. It was fortunate for Kyler though, as they wouldn't be in view of him for at least a few more seconds, enough time to search and disarm any traps on the door.
It was one things that Martin trained him furiously in - he couldn't use his Talent, so there was much more time to learn how to perfect the basics; setting, searching for and disabling all sorts of traps was one of those basics.
They had set one, perhaps thinking that if someone managed to get past the outside doors, they'd obviously be able to get through this one. Kyler disabled the trap and carefully slid the door open using a dagger, it simply opened. Now he would let one of them enter first.

Doc noticed the deactivated trap as they walked up. He gave Kyler a small grin as he walked in. "Thanks for that mate. Oh, and by the way, tontally understanding the holding things back, but like Raven said 'sometimes it's easiest to hide in plain sight'. Just a thought."

I raised an eyebrow but ignored their little exchange. I didn't know or particularly care what they were talking about. So the guy could disable a trap... so what? I just wanted to do this thing and get out of here. This really hadn't been what I'd planned for my first night in town.

"It was a really simple one... nothing fancy." Kyler lied... the man thought he had some things figured out, didn't mean he was going to give him the satisfaction of knowing he was right.
Noticing that nothing happened once Doc had entered, Kyler followed, politely holding the door open for Maya. The comment about some "Raven" character stuck to his memory... he would question him about it later.

He loved stringing people along. Really he did. the kid was obviously hiding something, and Maya obviously wasn't an open book. But really, who was he to talk? He hadn't exactly revealed everything he knew. Why should they?

"Thanks." I said, a little sarcastically. Being chivalrous while breaking and entering seemed a little ridiculous. "So what are we looking for?" I asked yet again.

"Central archives," he said, pointing at hte locked door at one end of the room. "A treasure trove of Council knowledge. All greedily protected like Pooh Bear with honey. Who wants first dibs?"

I grimaced. "You go get your archives, I'm gonna look for something worth a bit." I replied. I understood his need to find out about his sister, but I needed to get an apartment, and to do that I needed a bit of cash. Giles had frowned upon my larcenous habits so I hadn't had a chance to pick much up lately. What is a girl to do? Real jobs mean records, and I dont like records.

"Have fun, don't pick up a cursed amulet," Doc muttered, moving towards the archives. Hm, computer locks. Let's see, three, two...
And the lights went out. doc grinned. yeah, it paid to pay of the odd demon for some sabotage,"he thought as the locks disengaged. He'd only have a few minutes before the system reset itself and emergency power came up. It'd be enough.
