"True, but i don't have one of them," he said, walking behind her, approaching the apparent leader. "Anyway, we have a grace period of about 15 minutes before the big cheese makes an appearance, destroy the shrine before that and we stop the ritual. Take the left part of the altar out first. Taking the centre opens the gate. He's going to be a hell of a lot weakened since the ritual wasn't completed, so no massive bursts of power that makes those guys on Japanese cartoons look like pushovers, but that's not going to make him any easier to beat. Right hand side takes out the building and about a quarter of LA. Aim for the left, please?"

I was vaguely impressed, Doc's 'wizard' sounded as brainy as Giles. I nearly laughed aloud at the idea of me as the 'protector'. I was driven more by killing demons than saving humans. But at least we'd scuppered the ritual. "Can I kill this guy now?" I asked.

"No reason to keep him alive any more," she replied, "So have at it." She walked over to the 'kid' and bent down in front of him. "You okay in there?"
"So what, do we have to just take apart the alter or does it need to be done a specific way?" she asked. "Or did you not get that information?"

"Actually, I can help with that," Elizabeth said, stepping forward. It seemed the group had the whole thing under control and since she was useless in a fight against a group of vampires she decided it was probably best to stay out of the whole conflict. But now her training at the watcher's academy could be of service.
"You could just destroy the alter but to be safe it'd be best to take each item away, starting with the candles," she said a slight british accent showing through.

For the first time, fear was showing in the vampires eyes, "No no no, wait, wait I can help..." He stuttered desperately. I smiled at him- it wasn't a nice expression. "Too late." I told him brightly, and applied pressure to the wooden blade, slicing clean through his neck. His body fell away first, and the head crumbled to dust as I pulled the knife away. Leaving the others to the alter, I went back to Kyler, who had still not woken up. I wondered whether the effects would only wear off after the alter was destroyed... or worryingly I knew it was possible that destroying the alter could infact make it impossible to restore him... "Ah... guys?" I called out, "Hang on one second... Doc... didn't you say that the ritual took something from the victims to strengthen the demon? I'm just thinking... what if the only way to get that back is to kill the bastard? Kyler doesn't appear to be home right now."
((Just an idea, obviously can change it if you like, just think it's time we had a nice big fight!))

(((Why not? XD I might come up with a suprise at the end though... ooooooob)))
As the vampire died, Kyler could feel the ashes of the creature hit the floor. The sound of every piece amplified in his brain a hundred-fold. At that point, he could feel the shrine, its energy reverberated through him and an image appeared in Kyler's mind as he lay motionless. The voices of the girls who attempted to wake, or simply to communicate with him came through, he could hear them, but he couldn't respond.
He couldn't recognise the image, but it was clear and precise and it took up almost the entirety of what he could picture at this moment. Who was it? Why was it here? He was aware of the world around him, but he couldn't communicate nor move... all he saw was the image, all he felt was the shrine and all he heard were the voices of these people he had just joined forces with to fight this threat.

(((As long as we don't have future people, and past people, and people making out in cupboards *pointed look* then I'm going to enjoy it. But I am in Dublin over the next four days, so no posting for me)))
I hailed the kids a taxi, put the fear of God into the driver with a nice spiel and a slight shifting of the face as he looked at me, and sent them off home. Something told me I could still be needed, still be useful, and besides, I was woried about Kyler. Sliding back inside the warehouse I heard Doc something about a shifter and quickened my steps. Now that it was empty, aside from the crates and the shrine, it felt strangely empty.
"Can I ask why the ritual is still going? Because it seems to me a good idea to, I don't know, stop it?" The look of it was making me edgy just being around it, and I moved over to Kyler almost automatically, just to get away from the fire.

"Because we just dusteed the head honcho without considering he'd taken what he needed from Kyler," Doc said. He felt like hitting himself for not thinking of that. "So the question is, what was taken," he moved with Kyler, having a hand in front of his face. "Hey, kid. You in there?" He looked up at the newcomer, British (which set off all kinds of alarms, naturally). "Any ideas?"

I watched the newcomer with narrowed eyes- being an English girl in America, I liked the sense of being one in a million, a lone wolf... having another brit appear out of nowhere, stinking of watcher, put my defenses up. I wondered whether Doc realised what she was? I ignored the fact that his question had been aimed at her. "We let the beasty come forth, kick his arse and be done with it." I said simply.

Ok, now I was prepared to admit it; I was way out of my league here, and that was frankly frightening. Vampires I done, but not a nest, and certainly not a nest that held a ritual and dear God, I hadn't thought of this before, was smart enough to make me gather all their ingredients for them like some Betty Crocker hero mix. And suddenly we were about to welcome the demon intothe world with open arms?
"You say that like it's a piece of cake, but if what I read about you Slayers was right, wasn't the whole point of having about a billion potentials that Slayers got killed by demons all the time? Shortest life five minutes, longest five years, that kind of deal? And even if I'm wrong, I know something - demons who are part of a species, ok, they're weaker, I get it, but they still pack a punch. Demons with names? Personal names? You want to let one of them out when we've known each other twenty minutes at best, and with all the ingredients he needs to power up his own form again at his disposal."
I took a deep breath, and tried to get my point across. "These vamps were clever. They got all of us here while getting the other sacrifices they wanted and they hardly broke a sweat. hey managed to make me their pawn and get you all here, and I wasn't even aware people knew there was a shifter, a slayer and a whatever the hell you are, Doc, in town. So they died easy, so what. I don't think we should underestimate their intelligence, or the thing about to come out of the big glowing hole!"

She had a point, but firstly I wasn't about to admit that, and secondly, I didn't hear anyone else coming up with an idea that wouldn't leave Kyler permanently comatose. I didn't like the idea of explaining that I could feel the deeper connection... I knew that Kyler was bound to the alter and the thing it was meant to raise, and I knew that simply destroying the alter would cut the connection, but not restore him... but I wasn't sure how to explain that in the rapidly diminishing time before the beast appeared... So I went for the arsey arrogant slayer approach. "Actually," I began, "the last formal slayer has survived coming up on thirteen years. Largely due to the fact that she wasn't cut off from the regular world as she was 'meant' to be." I shot the newcomer a scathing glance. "Secondly, go ahead and destroy the alter if you like, but I'd like to place a bet on this kid remaining unconscious indefinitely if you do. Oh, and thirdly, I doubt we're actually gonna get a choice in Assgrog or whatever he's called showing up cos our 15 minutes is pretty much gone by now, so my advice? find a weapon, dont hold back, and hope that he's similar to Gachnar." I checked my own weapons and headed back towards the alter, not hugely caring whether they understood who Gachnar the demon of fear was.

They were still discussing his fate, and Kyler had no say in it. He heard their words, but for some reason, couldn't fully register what they were saying. He understood as if he was simply listening in, but as soon as what was said had been said, he forgot, it simply slipped from his mind, unable to be retained in his member.
Another voice was much clearer, however, than their voices. It was a voice that sounded as if it should be familiar, but at the same time wasn't. It was quiet, distant, muffled... but growing closer. Kyler couldn't tell what it was or what it was saying, but he felt the urge to pull closer to it. It was insatiable, and so he used all he had - though limiting at this point, to attempt to listen and understand this new voice speaking to him, begging him to come closer...

"Alright, everyone calm down," Doc said. "Blowing up won't do anything," he looked at Kyler, then the alter for a moment. Think, th8ink, there has to be something, some bit he was missing, some... "That's it! We have to weaken the demon more," the ritual hadn't been completed so it was already going to be weaker, since it hadn't had a full 'feed'. To wekaen it more they had to bring it out before it was ready. "Maya, centre of the alter, take it out! That'll open the gate and bring him into our plane, badly weakened. We might have a chance."

I shrugged, "I can do that." I raised my sword and bought it crashing down on the centre of the alter, smashing the components of the ritual that sat on it, and cracking the flimsy table beneath. "Party time." I said with a feral grin as the whole building began to shake and shafts of light shot out of the cracked alter.
