"We are not riding horses," she retorted. Knowing him he'd try and say something 'funny' back so before he could she brushed past him. She wasn't surprised when a dog poked through the corner and hoped that would distract Doc from making any more stupid wise cracks since it was obvious he didn't know what this girl was.

"I didn't say... Where'd the dog come from?" Doc asked, looking at the large, wolfish animal cautiously. "And where'd Jessy go? And why do I think I'm missing something? Again?"

I was almost skipping up the stairs towards my apartment. My hair was scragged back in a ponytail, and my clothes were covered in paint- I had been decorating the shop, it was oddly statisfying in a totally normal human way. It was only when i reached my hallway that I noticed the voices and footsteps upstairs and paused to listen more closely... was that Doc I heard? What was he doing in my building? I looked down at my filthy clothes, shrugged, and moved tentatively to peer up the stairs.

"Doc, are you really that clueless?" she replied turning to look at him. Sometimes she worried about him. "Where do you think she went?" Okay, she'll admit it. It was rather amusing to see him confused. She looked at Jessy, "Want me to explain?"

Kyler had been using the outside pipes and other structures protruding from the apartment building walls to climb up the side of the building, and check each floor as he did so. He soon found a familiar sight - Doc, inside an apartment, and some unfamiliar sights, a woman and a dog.
Was it Doc that called me here? What does he want me to do? Walk his pet while he has dinner with his wife?
It was only after he heard the woman ask the dog... the dog?... a question that he figured there was something a little more than what met the eye to this. He decided to creep into the shadow cast by the railings and pipes on the outside of the building and listen in, knowing full well that there was a good chance that Doc might be able to sense his Talent at this close range - damn the inability to keep it concealed!

"Sneaking's not your strong suit, Kyler," Doc said idly. "We need to get you're masking ability dow... Damn," he muttered suddenly, looking at the dog. "You know, a warning would have been nice," he shook his head. More and more interesting. "We're wasting time. We have people to save."

Ok so Kyler was around somewhere, but not in the hallway. That was just Doc, some woman I guessed could be this 'Rogue' and a dog they kept talking to which had an odd aura I couldn't quite place... it wasn't just a dog anyway. I went a couple of steps up so that I was visible, "Someone mention people to be saved?" I asked.

Guess what? Dogs can roll their eyes. A paw to the ground and a brief look at Maya and Kyler and I was off down the stairs, padding quickly and hoping they would take the initiative to follow me. I was a little pissed... sure, I'd have to reveal myself sooner or later, but I'd been hoping for later. The whole not being able to talk thing was something of a hindrance too, though it highlighted the pointlessness of words - we needed to be moving, not discussing how to do so. Rogue was right, every second mattered. Funny how the dead have a better sense of the importance of life.

That was the only cue Rogue needed and she took off after Jessy. Hopefully they were going to make it in time to help. She kept one hand on the sword to keep it from bumping the sides of the stairs as she ran down.
Doc seemed to know more people then he had let on. Apparently he didn't know them quite well enough from the looks of his reaction to Jessy. She didn't know who the young man or woman was upstairs that showed up but apparently they were there to help. The more hands the better she supposed.
The night air was cool as it seemed to be every night as the days shortened and the nights became longer. Part of her was over joyed at the thought of longer nights but it also meant longer nights for vampires who were not like her. Vampires who would kill indiscriminately and have fun whilst doing so as if it was some sport.
At least she had morals... sorta.

Kyler smiled, Doc had detected him, but no one else could. His comment on his ability to hide was incorrect, only other Talented could detect him, and they were few and far-between. Nevertheless, it was obvious he was here now.
The dog was someone they knew, obviously, and it showed a sign of intellect. It couldn't be her, could it? Jessy? A dog? Kyler shook his head... while he was used to the paranormal and learning to expect the unexpected, he wouldn't come to such an extreme conclusion unless he was certain, and he really wasn't, it was an insane idea.
Watching, at first, the dog and the other woman heading down the stairs, he looked back at the only two people he recognised, Maya and Doc. I'll meet them downstairs.
Running along the wall for a moment, he made it to a nearby windowsill, and slid down a drainage pipe, repeating such manouvers to make it down the side of the building. He enjoyed this, the freedom of such acts, especially in the night, when there was barely anyone around. He allowed himself to get caught up in it for a moment, before reaching the ground and checking his surroundings. Martin had taught him well, and the slight puffing indicated that at least some of his Talent had to have been used up in providing him energy... he hoped so, anyway. It was the only way he knew that he could expell some of it, and even that wasn't overly effective.

"Maya, what...?" Doc began, then shook his head. "Never mind for now. We need to go. I'll tell you what I know on the way. Bottom line, vamp attack, people taken and we're the cavalry," a wolfish grin spread along his face. "Poor bastards," he said before following the rest of the group down the stairs.

THe smell was still strong as I raced down the streets trying to find the actual scent trail again. It was close by, closer than I'd thought, but I was still glad to have the vampire behind me. Having someone I knew could keep up and confirm my choices and turns was helpful when I couldn't speak and explain exactly why I was going the way I was.
However, the scent trail proved one thing only - these vampires were dumbasses. Sure, zigzagging is smart when there's someone on your tail, but crossing your own path multiple times makes it far easier to find the strongest, freshest path available. In short, they had wasted their time, because I just picked up the newest line and ran with it, teeth bared just in case they left sentries. The great thing about dogs though, is that no one considers them much of a threat unless they foam at the mouth. Less conspicous than women in capes with swords.
The nest was where I'd thought it would be, down by the warehouses and docks. THere was laughter, and some sort of blue fire lit up the place like a firework shop inside. Hardly subtle. The overconfidence was a bit daunting - if there was a real reason for them not to care, there could be trouble. Then again, maybe LA had simply gone undefended too long. Either way, it was time for some fighting.

As Rogue hurried past me I got a primal urge to attack her- she was clearly a vampire... and yet she was helping Doc, and he trusted her, so I decided that I could afford to go with it for now rather than getting into some sort of a pickle by staking her. I didn't respond as Doc raced past me too with his quick greeting. I opened my apartment door, grabbed the bag always stashed just inside, and followed quickly, leaping over the railing rather than taking the stairs for one storey in order to catch up. We followed the dog... could it possibly be Jessy? That look it gave me back in the building was extremely familiar... and soon we were approaching the poorly concealed nest. Either these guys were amateurs, carelessly leading us right to them, or they were the very opposite, and weren't in the least bit worried about a bunch of hunters crashing their party... we would soon find out which...

Rogue looked up at the building, tilting her head to the side. "They're definitely inside," she said, a little concerned with their hiding location. "I guess I'll go in first," she replied removing her cloak before deciding to take a pipeline up to the second floor, finding the window which led into an office of some description was left unlocked. She looked down at the others clearly concerned with the feeling she was getting. It was just odd.
Without a word she began to slip inside, hand resting on her favorite weapon just in case. She did not like where this seemed to be going. Where they really this stupid?

Elizabeth's years as a watcher had given her enough sense to know when she thought something was a trap then it probably was. Though from her perch on the side of the building she could hardly tell what exactly they were doing. The windows weren't exactly very clean. One thing she could tell for sure was that the place looked too clean for the vampires to have lived there for very long.
She really wished she had her crossbow. There was no way she could stop a nest of vampires even under normal circumstances, let alone under such weird ones. Sure a single vampire she could handle, mostly. Okay, so not so much any more. She wasn't horribly surprised when she heard some noises not too far off.
When she peeked her head out she saw the young man who worked at the cafe who had helped during the original fight. And he brought friends. Part of her sighed in relief.
