There is a difference between regular silence and deliberate lack of sound. This was the latter. Not a single noise came back from down the stairs... everything was too still. Crap. i thought. I didn't even take time to get pissed at Nickis Joshua comment, i just signalled for her to go down one side of the stairs, and I'd take the other. Slowly we began to decend, each ready for what ever was waiting at the bottom...

We slowly walked down our sides of the stairs. I started to see the outline of a shadow not too far in the distance and I signalled at Maya.
My hand gripped on my stake until I felt a splinter enter the side on my index finger but I refused to make noise. Cautiously we ventured forward and I felt myself fly backwards suddenly as the figure raised that hands. I looke dover for Maya and saw she was in the same position as me
[Magic user. Might not be evil but we need to be careful] I mentally gave Maya my thoughts

[yeah, well they better be careful too] i said, grinning at her. I mouthed, one, two, three, and the two of us stepped forwards, hands out stretched. Our combined power counteracted the attacker's and threw them against the wall.

I walked forward to where they sat crumpled in a heap and crouched on my knees. It was a guy, probably early to mid twenties
'Mai we got another male to deal with' I shook him slightly as he began to wake up and he stared at the two of us
'Who the hell are you?'
'Well we can either be your dream girls or your worst nightmare, so let's hope you co-operate nice shall we? First off are you human?' He nodded 'What's your name?'
'Why do you wanna know? And what are you doing here? And again who the hell are you?'
I sighed and looked at Maya [He's a tough cookie to crumble]

"Er, ok." I said, "Seeing as it was you who attacked us, we get to ask the questions. Plus we're the good guys, so again, we get to ask the questions! And a little advice? Try to give the right answers, cos i'm not having a good day with guys."
The guy swallowed nervously, and i rolled my eyes, [Nicki, fire away.]

'Tucker'
'Nice name, but what are you doing here?'
He struggled to stand up and warily eyed me and Maya
'Hiding out. This whole city has gone nuts and I figured that this would be the safest place, you got any idea where everyone went?'
I shook my head
'Sorry, but we're just as stumped. So you're into magic huh?'
'Just enough to survive yeah' He paused 'So you're the good guys? Are there anymore of you?'
I grinned and looked behind me up the stairs
'Just enough to survive'

"Though its questionable how good some of them are." I murmured, "Is being inexplicably irritating proof of evilness?" Nicki just looked witheringly at me. "Oh, right, off topic." I said. Turning to 'Tucker' i said,
"All we know so far is that all the regular people have disappeared and left all the... well, non-regular people, that is demons, demon fighters, an i guess magically inclined people, behind... ooh, you know anything about glowing cubes?"

'Glowing cubes?' He repeated it with a thoughtful look on his face 'Well some say there is a cube that deals with the end of the world if that's any help?'
'Oh great, another apocolypse. How exciting' I sighed and looked at Maya who I could tell was still thinking of ways to prove Joshua's evilness 'You think we should introduce him to the family?'

'Do you have issues or something? I mean you sound like you've just broken up with your boyfriend'
I laughed out loud
'She's just having some guy related problems, come on let's go upstairs where Joshua is'
Maya scowled at me as the three of us began our way up to the other two

I elbowed her, scowling,
"I said we're not friends at the moment- we have got on like once in a blue moon... but he isnt, never was and never will be my... I cant even say it."
"Boyfriend." Nicki sang, grinning. She ducked as i swung at her again, and Tucker just looked very worried, as if he was in a town full of demons with a bunch of nutters...
We continued into the entrance hall, where Doc and he were discussing stategies

I looked up from my conversation with Joshua as the girls came up with someone I didn't know.
"New guy?" I asked, then added, "Or should Joshua be getting jealous?"
