I raised one eyebrow, a scan?? I wasn't a friggin xray machine. I resisted tearing him a new one and instead suggested, "I do know of a spell that should allow me to see if any spells have be performed on her... its a little fiddly though, astral plane shit..." I paused, "Look... I know my stuff, but I'm not exactly an experienced witch, ok? Incase you didn't notice last time, I dont have perfect control over this stuff yet... so I can't garuntee anything... but I can try."

"Trying's a start," Doc said with a nod. "If you really want to. Otherwise, we could probably use another set of eyes in the books. And we'll need a counter once we figure it out. If your interested..."

I nodded, "Ok, I'll need to get some supplies from the shop, and a quiet place to set up. Unless you have any magical supplies here?" I looked to Mal, "Its not complicated stuff, just a bit of incense and infused sand... the hard bit is more mental... you have probably heard of it, its a spell called tirer la couture... pull back the curtain."

Mal looked up from his blank book, nodding. "I've heard of it. I'm afraid I don't keep spell ingrediants around. Not a magic user myself."
"No, just a walking Google," Doc said, earning a withering glare from mal.

If I had been in a better mood I might have smiled at that, but as it was that fact just annoyed me more. I nodded stiffly, "Ok then, I'll be back soon." I turned around and left without another word. I was concerned that this was going to bite me in the ass. What if Doc took this as a sign I wanted to bond? What if he tried to talk it through with me? The idea horrified me... but I was sure it would happen sooner or later... Maybe I should just leg it. I groaned at myself as I realised that I wouldn't... couldn't... just do that after promising to try to help. I set off running for my shop, hoping that a bit of excercise might help to clear my head.

Rogue continued to sit where she was, catching only the faintest idea of what was going on. At least this witch might have the ability to help which was something that her pride hated to admit that she needed. It was not safe to remain so clueless about what was happening nor did she desire to be trapped in a time she did not know. Having never heard of the spell before she had no idea what to expect when the witch returned.
"Who was that?" Rogue asked, half in wondering and half at Mal wondering if he could give her an answer.

"A long story," Doc said, sitting next to her again. "And, if you realy want to know, the core of my hatred for hte Council of Wankers."
"Kathleen Ellison, or Maya as she is registered," Mal filled in, earning a glare from Doc. "Jackson's long lost, recently found, Slayer-witch sister."

"Oh? So she is the current slayer?" she was slightly relieved in the knowledge that the slayer was helping. "These days have much changed from those that I am used to. Good natured vampires, slayers helping vampires. Such things were not heard of in my time. The idea seems a bit worrysom. Why is it you trust me? Why do I trust you? There must be some degree of trust if I live with you." It had been on her mind the last bit.
No longer was she feeling anxious nor uncertain. She wasn't sure if it because she was not alone in this or that it didn't seem like she was doing too bad in this strange time.
She returned to the tombs that seemed to be scattered around the room, her fingers gracing the spines of each book until she picked one in latin. She couldn't speak latin properly to save her life but she could read it with some difficulty.
"This world is very odd," she muttered the last part as she flipped through the pages in the book. "This book feels familiar, reminds me of Caddie." The thought made her smile but it was the color of the tomb not the actual tomb itself that reminded her of her watcher. It was a book of demons which might be helpful. "Shall we make a pile for demon tombs as well as another for magic spells? Of course if the slayer is a witch she hopefully has a more extensive knowledge of magic than I hold. Which is not much, only what little I've learned. I've never had any luck with it so I tend to stay away from it."

Doc raised an eyebrow. How to broach the subject of there being more than one Slayer? Or anything else for that matter? "Why I trust you us a long story. Basically, you gave me a place to stay and I didn't end up dead. When i got a job, I got the apartment and gave you a chance to get out of that tomb you were staying in."
"Making a couple of seperate piles may be an idea," Mal took over. "I tend to keep the more demonic of my collection under lock and key, but I can fetch them for you. As for Maya being the current Slayer..."
"That's a complication in and of itself," Doc took over again, shooting Mal a quick glance. "And it may be an idea to leave that for now so as not to overload you with information."

"Crypt, a tomb is very different from a crypt and I do believe I would prefer to live in a crypt over a tomb," she looked up with a weary grin and shrug. "When you spend so much time in a graveyard you do wonder."
She turned to look at Mal, "Gathering those would be great, if you know of anything relevant. Anything on charms might help. And what is the current season? Some witchcraft is limited by season and lunar cycle as well as the availability of less common herbs but since the Slayer, Maya, has access to such herbs that could mean that others have as well which does not limit things in the slightest." She wasn't used to trying to think of what to do on her own when it came to research but she had seen Caddie to it often enough that she copied what she thought her watcher would do. Of course Caddie was still fresh in her mind since it was only the night before that she had seen her watcher.

"you're pretty good at this," Doc noted, heading into the stacks of books while Mal went into his safe. "Experiance or observation?"

She watched Mal before turning to Doc, "Observation, my Watcher expresses that without organization any research well only result in confusion. As much as I complain and wish she wasn't right... well... she was right. We do not want to miss over anything important and once we've narrowed down the cause or source we'll be able to remove that stack of books."
Her pride was a bit stung at the idea of admitting that someone else was right and she straightened her stance as she ran another finger over the tomes, trying to find one that looked about right for what she needed.

Now there's an interesting stance, Doc thought. Almost... insulted? Hm...
"Makes sense," he said out loud. "Myself... I usually get my info through a very got barter system. You need it, I get it and I trade for something i need," he shrugged. "Usually works a treat, especially if I know exactly what I'm looking for. Research..."
"He usually pays for that," Mal said, returning with a small pile of very old books. One seemed to be locked with a chain.
"Oh, har, har," Doc muttered. "It's not my fault my training was less 'dead languages' and more '10 way to kill a man at long range'."

"Do you not know any other languages than? Of course it is not proper of women to know more than common tongue," she plucked another tome from the shelf before spinning around to place the book upon the table.
"I much prefer point and kill myself. I find a vampire and I dust him. A simple stake can do wonders against a demon as well. Granted their hearts are not always in the same place as ours but a swift sword can take care of that problem. Though that's probably what got me killed," she sat down to look through the books she had chosen to make sure she found them suitable. Instinctively a hand went to her cross necklace to fiddle with it but found no necklace. It was a nervous habit, the only one she let show. God was a comfort and now she no longer had that. It was strange.

"Missing something?" Doc asked absently, noticing her hand move. He winced a bit. "Sorry. Force of habit. 'Information is everywhere. Eyes open, mouth shut and for God's sake, pay attention for once.' I guess I did eventually," he gave a shrug. "I guess i finally did, huh?"
