"In the past few hundred years, I believe so. I would have to make a more indepth check," he added, picking up the book discarded by Doc. "But there were some tests and decisions implemented within the last few hundred years that point to a far more dictatorial group, more concerned with power and control that anything else. I have had a chance to study their more recent actions, since Jackson would come to me for information on his sister."

"And what did he mean by the new council? What happened to the old one?" She asked the question unsure of if she wanted to know the answer. Part of her wished to have her memory back so she would be able to remember everything. Surely she would have kept a close eye on what was going on with the council. If she was good as Doc said than she would know. She should know.

"Ah, that is... complicated," Mal said, picking up his blank book and opening it. "In 2003, the First Evil made an attempt to crossover into this realm. He attempted to erase the Slayer line by attacking Potentials as a first strike, followed by an attack on the Council itself," he looked up at her, not sure if he should continue. She did ask, however. "In an attempt to 'remove the head' so to speak. The HQ in London was destroyed, and much of the leading body eliminated. After the First was defeated and all Potentials activated, the current Slayer, Buffy Summers, and her friends, including her Watcher Rupert Giles, took over. they have improved the Councils procedures and attitudes regarding Sayers, but there is still much to do. Jackson, however, is still not overly trusting of them and has no great contact other than the odd breaking and entering."

"Do me a favor, unless I need to know do not tell me any more of what I do not remember," she turned back to her book with a sigh, trying to work out the thoughts going through her head trying to grasp at any memory she could find but none came. She hated the feeling of helplessness that this world brought tp her. So many things were different and yet still the same.

"I apologise," Mal said. "But you did ask," he went back into his book, giving a slight green glow as he returned tot he library, using every keyword he could think of to try and find an answer.

"I did," she agreed. "I just do not wish to know any more." Soon I shall remember everything and not be trapped like this. She kept flipping through the pages of the book before moving back over to the table to grab another book before sitting down and taking another book in her hands.

Very well then," Mal said distantly as his mind walked among the shelves of the Planet Library. "Continuing look up. Key words for memory erasure and mental regression have revealed little. Let's try..." his voice dropped to a murmer as he searched for clues.

I was still stood there, listening to the mental version of the conversation... it was sort of fascinating. They really could use a hand... but could I really help? I didn't know. The infuriating truth was that part of me wanted to. The majority of me made the excuse that perhaps if I helped out, I would get some sort of closure, followed by actual SLEEP. So, taking a deep breath, I stepped into the library. "Hey." I said hesitantly.

Doc gulped quietly, looking at his sister. "Hi," he said. "so... how are you?" How are you? How fucking are you? What kind of question was that? he asked himself.

I had two options... Number 1: Tell the truth... "Fucking awful actually thanks. I just found out that my whole life is a total lie and two whole families are dead because of me. I havnt slept in days because I'm hearing other peoples thoughts and I have a headache that resembles the sensation of being run over by a steam roller." Or number two, lie appallingly, which after a short consideration of number 1, I decided would be a much better idea. "Fine." I said blankly, "I was out on patrol and saw this place and I kinda assumed that after last time the only reason he would want me here would be if you needed my expertise." I nodded to Mal. "So what's up?"

Lousy liar, he thought. Not that, given what she'd been through, he'd blame her.
"Oh nothing much," he said with a shrug. "Someone decided to repress my roomates memories bac a very long time and this particular version thinks the Coucnil is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I had to go out for a walk before I did something I was going to regret," okay, yeah, I'd found her. The Council still sucked ass.

The council. I'd thought about them alot in the past few days. Doc had hated them his whole life for what they did to his family.... to me.... If the council hadn't come looking all those years ago, would Doc and I have grown up as normal kids? Happy? Not totally disturbed and irreversibly screwed in the head? But then again, would that have meant that I'd never have met the family I knew? The family I loved? I had never really thought about the council before meeting Doc... I had never known the old council... but now I found that the mention of it gave me a cold feeling deep in my chest... I wasn't sure that it was hate, really.... just... mistrust... resentment. I tried to keep my face neutral as I considered this, working back to the original point.... "Any idea who or what caused the memory loss?" I asked, sticking to business.

"Nothing I can think of," he told her. "We're raiding Mal's books and he's going through everything he can think of to find an answer, but we could use some help. If you're interested, that is," wouldn't be too surprised if she turned at walked away right now, but I hoped she wouldn't. If this was hte best chance I had to actually get to know my sister, then I'd take it.

Much as I wanted to walk right back out the door, I felt a complusion to help them... so if that was what I had to do to clear my head and get my life back on track, then that was what I would do. I refused to believe that this complusion might actually be a desire to know my brother. I already knew my brother, he crumbled to dust in my own hands. I didn't want, or need, a replacement. "What can I do?" I asked.

"Well," he began, thinking. She'd shown a hell of a lot of power when she thought he was playing her. "Maybe a scan, see if there's any spells or the like. Uh, brainstorming keywords for Mal. Any information you might be able to bring to the table, though you've seen Mal's book collection," he gave a wry sort of grin. "I don't think there are any books he doesn't have a copy of in there."
