"This may be just a wild suggestion but catch up on what each others lives have been like. Obviously you aren't going to tell every little detail but it might help knowing where each of you are coming from."

I stared at her for a moment. This vamp really didn't understand the whole 'taking it slow' senario, did she? I just shook my head slowly, sipping my latest drink. I definitely wasn't going to make the mistake of going to a bar for social reasons again soon. It was far too stressful.

Doc huckled, grabbing his second drink. The words were out of his mouth before he could stop himself. "Oh yeah, great idea. 'Hi Maya, what were you doing while you were kidnapped? Me, I was torturing my way through the Council trying to find you, wasn't that fun'," the drink was in his mouth before he could say anything else stupid. shit...

"Might have been a detail you should have waited to reveal," Rogue muttered rolling her eyes. He really needed to learn when to shut up.

What did they think I was a child? I found myself smiling. "You've been searching for me all this time?" I said before I could stop myself. I guess I had known he'd been looking out for signs, but I had no idea he had so actively been seeking me out. It was.... touching. No matter the means. Maybe that made me fucked up.... but hey, who could blame me?

"Uh, yeah," Doc said slowly. Not exactly the reaction he'd expected. "Well, there was a couple of years I spent training, but I kept my ear tot he ground. Learned about the supernatural, got a head up on the Watchers and Slayers," It had been weird how much Raven had wanted him to know about all of those. "But I never stopped thinking about finding you. "Of course," he added wryly. "I never expected that you'd actually become a Slayer."

"Was a surprise to me too." I said wryly. Of course that was an understatement... at the time I had barely known what a slayer was, and suddenly gaining super strength wasn't my greatest worry when I had been running from dudes with no eyes and nasty knives for the past few months. I swirled my drink in the glass, thinking that maybe in some ways Rogue was right- at some point we would have to talk about all that shit. I just wasn't sure I was ready yet, and I certainly wasn't gonna spill here and now.

A small smirk appeared on Doc's face. "I would have loved to have seen the face of the poor schmuck that got the first taste of Slayer strength from ya."

I chuckled, surprising myself as the rare noise sounded outloud. "I think my expression might have been the more amusing." I admitted. I remembered it all too well. I had been hiding out in a crappy town in the arse end of nowhere... I hadnt seen the bringers in a few days and it was making me very jumpy, so when a vamp cornered me in an alley, I was tired, angry and extremely on edge. I was not about to go without a fight after all that I had been through... so I lashed out with an untrained fist and the bastard flew right across the street. I didn't have a clue what was going on... I shook myself slightly, bringing myself back to the present. Doc was looking at me with an odd expression. No, I was definitely not ready to tell him all that stuff. Not yet.

"I guess going from regular strength to Supergirl must have been something, huh?" He offered. "Cause from the girl i met tonight? You knew about the supernatural before you were the Slayer," and you were haunted, he added menatlly, though deciding not to broach it out loud. Not yet.

"Uh... a bit." I replied evasively. "A long story for another time." I wasn't even allowing him to think that continuing the questioning would get him anywhere.

I smiled wryly, at least he was able to take a hint. Maybe we did have a bit in common... other than anger evasiveness pain and killing things....
