"It is fine, I do not mind," she waved her hand in a dismissive action, as if the hand jester could get her point across. "My cross, when I had to research I often fiddled with it. Makes sense that I do not have it but I thought I might have replaced it with something else." She shrugged off the thought. "Just a surprise is all."
She grew a bit more quiet; partially because of the oddity of not having a necklace and trying to pay attention to the books in front of her. After finding the current books were suitable she stood again to try to find a few more books.

Doc nodded. He supposed everyone needed something to keep them distracted at some point. Like him and sharpening knives. "Well, you never really struck me as the sentimental type," he said aloud. "Of course, you're also not one to talk about yourself much. I'm actually learning more about you now than I have in the past couple of months."

"Oh," she said, curious and surprised. "I guess maybe I should stop than. If I like to keep things to myself." She picked up another book from the shelf and flipped through the pages before putting the book back and taking up another one.
"What about yourself? You seem open and yet also guarded at the same time. What are your beliefs? What is your training?"

"No one should control another's fate," he said simply. "Everyone should be free to make their own choices," he managed to refrain from the 'nothing is forbidden, everything is permitted' line from the Assassin's Creed games. "Training? Intelligence and infiltration, sniping, hand to hand, weapons and... Talents normal human's don't possess," he gave her an enigmatic smile on the last one as he pumped mana into his arm, lifint the edge of hte table closest to him with his finger before placing it gently ont he ground. Mal rolled his eyes.
"Do quite showing off, Jackson."

"So you believe there is no God? No one who is out there to watch over us?" she sauntered over and pulled out a chair, crossing one leg over the other; deciding that until the Slayer got back with the spell there wasn't a huge hurry.
She watched him lift the corner of the table and only raised an eyebrow at it. "Am I supposed to get weak in the knees and be impressed?" It was impressive but strength alone was nothing. "Without skill behind that strength you are nothing and simply listing your skills does not impress. You handle yourself as tactfully as a new born pup when it comes to the skill of conversion, all bronze and not quite brain."

"Not really used to the social thing," and who says i told you everything, he added mentally. "And as for God, well... I believe there's one out there, sure. If there wasn't someone holding the metaphysical reigns, then the planet woulda gone to shit a long time ago. I just go with the old 'God helps those who helps themselves' adage. You want something bad enough to work for it, then the Big Man will offer it to you. Sitting around on your ass won't help no one."

Reaching the shop in a time that would thrill an olympic runner, I grabbed a few vials and started collecting the ingredients I needed. I stuck them, and the spell book, into a small bag which I swung onto my back before I rushed back out again. I wasn't exactly in a hurry to get back to Doc, but the more I kept busy the less chance I had to actually think. The three of them looked up in surprised when I arrived back, barely 10 minutes after I had left. "I have everything." I told them, "Where shall I set up?" ((What do you want her to see in the trance? ))

((I dunno, some sort of fog with a demon claw or something. Something to represent a more demonic influence.))
"Very true," Annie replied when Maya returned.
"You must be quite organized," she said, surprised that she had returned so quickly with the items she needed for the spell. "Do you need us to help with anything?" She did not know much about magic but she knew a few things and frankly she was curious to see how this slayer worked.

Mal gestured to the back of the store while Doc pondered on her speed. Was it eagerness to get this whole thing out of the way so she could go back to her own life or a wish to get to know him? Why did he think it was more of the former and less of the latter?

Annie looked back to Mal an idea forming in her head, part of her annoyed she didn't think to ask earlier.
"Mal? Where is the nearest known watcher? Is there one that happens to be in the city?" Watchers have an extensive knowledge of demons and spells so the chances of a watcher knowing something or knowing where they could look would be a great help. Not only that but she was curious to see what the watchers of today were like and if they were as horrible as Doc seemed to think they were.

Doc groaned outloud, his head banging against the table as Mal's eyes glazed over. "Elizabeth Mary Jenkins, 37, librarian. Local, lives not far from teh Univerity, i can giv you her address if you like."
"Must we get THEM involved?" Doc asked, his voice muffled by the table.

"You realize that watchers have extensive knowledge of demons and if it is indeed a demon involved with this than a spell well not simply do the trick. And if they do not know something off hand do you know how much information they have access to? Besides, I am curious to see if they're as bad as you believe they are now," she seemed almost happy to have him annoyed and from the awkwardness that was more than apparent between Doc and his sister she was positive that she might not be the only one who might derive some enjoyment from making Doc uncomfortable.

"...You do know what's going to happen if we front with a VAMPED SLAYER?" he asked pointedly, sitting up straight. "Let me illustrate for you. 'Hi, I'm...' stab POOF!" he spread his arms out at the end. "Get it? Me, probably shot on sight, you dust. Make sense to you?"

She raised an eyebrow, calming watching him. "First of all, they cannot detect vampires, second of all I'm sure if I wanted to I could take a watcher, and third of all you can come with me or I'll go on my own." And she had every intention of going herself if Doc did not plan on helping her. Granted she'd probably cause herself more damage in this strange world without his help but he was the one with the problem not her.
(lol, sorry if we seem like we're skipping over you, we're trying to get started on the next part so that way we can get this storyline moving.)

He rolled his eyes with a sigh. "Right you don't know. Maya? Not the only Slayer. There was some big thing on the Hellmouth. I'm not sure of the details but every girl with the potential to become the Slayer IS a Slayer. Every. Single. One. They've got them grouped in squads and I doubt this Watcher chick would be alone. So," he said, sitting back. "Potentially, more than one Slayer, plus the Watcher. Still confident? I sure as hell ain't."
