I sat in the middle of the room, concentrating hard. Ate may not have meant it, but she had broken every mental defence I had. I had been working all night to rebuild them.
Now I needed to make them stronger.

((please forgive me for joining a thread in the day... but Del's bored )) So this was the dojo... I'd heard the others talking about it all the time, but they only seemed to gather here during the day, which was really no good for me. Stupid sun, always ruining things - until now that it. I'd simply made my way inside during the night. All I had to do now was avoid the windows. Again I say: stupid sun. I was leaning against the wall, watching Doc quizzically as I had been doing all night. Following him from the Spot was no problem, but keeping my mouth shut for God knows how many hours was starting to become one. What was he doing? I didn't want to say anything, knowing that he was concentrating, and knowing that breaking someone's concentration was a dangerous thing. Especially when said someone had a soul-sabre. So I stayed there, just watching him, waiting for him to "wake up".

I hadn't gone immediatly as I planned because I thought of letting him calm down first, but now that it was daytime I quietly went into the Dojo.
Carefully I scooted without distracting him from what looked like meditation and I sensed someone else in the room. Quietly and unnoticed I scoured the room before sending out a silent message
[Del, is he okay?]

I didn't move an inch, only stood there, silently watching Doc. I found myself, interestingly enough, recalling times when I did this very same thing as a child. Of course, then I was a real elf-child, perfectly disciplined and comfortable with silence. Every day, it got a bit more difficult to dip into that elvish calm. If only Aralin were here.
When Nicki sent the message, I still didn't move; Doc wasn't the only one training here. But I performed the mental equivalent of shrugging and shaking my head, keeping the connection open with Nicki.
[If I knew that, do you think I would've stood here like this all bloody night?]

"Company."
My eyes snapped open to see Aredhel and Nicki standing by a wall.
"Hey," I said, getting to my feet.
"You alright?" Nicki asked. I nodded.
"Just putting the ol' mental walls together," I said. "No biggie."

Just putting up mental walls? That was what this whole thing was about? I'd stood here for hours on end, waiting for him to snap out of it, and all he was doing was putting up mental walls? There had to be more to it than that. Even if he was doing what he said he was doing, should it really have taken him that long?
"The sun is out," I deadpanned. Of course I was stating the obvious, but I had a point. "That means we've been here all night. Which is a hell of a long while to take for, and I quote, 'just putting the ol' mental walls together'."
I crossed my arms. I wasn't going to force any information out of him, and I certainly wasn't going to dig around in his brain to try and figure it out, but I wanted to let him know that I was just a wee bit skeptical about his explanation.

"Alright, alright," I said. "I was... trying to make them stronger. I've... got a thing with unwanted mental invasion, and an even bigger thing about mental manipulation. It's... complicated."

Del's expressin said it all. She wasn't about to force me, but she wasn'sure about my excuse. Damn, I didn't want to tell them about that... bitch, but if they had been there all night, they deserved to know.
"It was... about six months after I finished with Master Wong," I began. "I thought the training had made me invincible, that I couldn't be touched. I was wrong.
"Her name... her name was Laurana. When I first saw her... she was beautiful. We hit it off right away, I never susected a thing until she commanded me to follow her and I didn't have a choice but to obey.
"Five months," I croaked. "Five months she used me. Degraded me in every way, emabarrassed me. I was her pet, her puppet and there was absolutely no way i could fight. She had me right where she wanted me and she enjoyed every damn second of it. When I finally escaped, I promised myself I would never let anyone put me in that position again, used every discipline I knew to create the most powerful and complex defneses I could. I..."

I sighed, laying a hand on his shoulder. He'd said enough - it was obviously not something he wanted to remember, and his point was already across. I didn't know what it felt like to be in his position, but I could make a rough guess of how I thought I would react. Anyone who entered my mind after something like that wouldn't be alive to apologize. At least Doc showed some self-control.
"You don't have to explain anymore," I said quietly.

"I suppose i should apologise to Ate," I said. Aredhel raised an eyebrow in question. "I kinda downloaded teh entire experiance into her brain."
"Oh dear," teh vampire/elf sighed.
"Hey Del? Thanks."

A smile, not overly large but still there, soft and poised. It had been a long time since I'd actually smiled; for the past few centuries, it had all been smirks. It wasn't any conscious choice I made, but there it was. A smile for Doc.
"No problem," I said quietly. "But, uh, could you apologize to Ate in the night maybe, cause I'm pretty much stuck here till the moon comes up..."

"If it helps, I've got plenty of books downstairs," I offered. "In case you're bored. And there's the vaults. There are a few things in there I haven't id'd yet if you're interested."
((Friendly reminder to Nicki and apparently Jessy that they are both in this.))
