Those were about the only words I could manage at that point. This was supposed to be a surprise for her, but I was totally blown away by her address.
"Happy birthday, love," I whispered. "Now, do the polite thing and start opening presents. Then, I've got something for ya."

I held the box gingerly, somehow almost scared of opening it. I was so blown away by the surprise that I couldn't quite get my head around what was going on...Aredhel was giving me a present...Aredhel...who was somewhere on the hate/admire border in my mind was giving me a present. I knew I looked a bit stupid just standing there gormlessly but I just didn't know what to do. Doc, standing at my elbow told me and ever so slowly I undid the ribbon tying on the box lid and, accutely aware of the silence, I lifted the lid.

((maaan I was hoping to leave that little box till last cause it might put a damnper on the mood... but here it is...))
I bit my lip as Charlotte pulled off the lid of the small box. Any normal human being probably would have expected a ring, so small was the box, but let's face it, Charlotte was not a normal human being, and as much as she hated me (I did kill her mother) she knew full well that I wouldn't waste this on a ring.
Then again, she probably wasn't expecting a stone, either. She could search as long as she wanted, but she wouldn't find this stone in one of her watcher's books. This was something fashioned by the elves in the days of old, something I'd kept from my days in the Undying Lands. It was a clear colour, with just a bit of red seeming to shine like a light from the core. If Charlotte ever asked me, I would reveal to her that it was something I had fashioned with my own daughter, when she was just learning the crafts of our people. It was precious to me.
But she didn't know that. She just looked confused, a little bit lost. After all, why would I be so nervous about giving her a stone? She knew better than that.
"Look into it," I instructed. "Just let yourself be calm and look into the stone."
It had taken a lot of spellwork (which wasn't easy given my recently-awakened state) and careful maneuvering, but I'd put my new weapon - the Celebhith - to good work. Cliff's notes version: I'd transferred some of the power of the Celebith into the stone. Not a lot - in fact, practically none at all, given the relative power that was left in the Celebhith - but enough to make it work. Charlotte could call up the souls of those close to her, those in her heart. Namely: her parents.
If I had needed breath, I would have held it right now. I just prayed to every god I could think of - whether they be my own or someone else's - that she'd appreciate it. The stone was from a mother and daughter, and the power inside held the same bond.
((I just thought it would be a nice gesture for Del to make...))

The doors swung open and I happily took in the familiar sights before me, eyes brighter than usual what with finally being home.
I'd actually gotten back to town a couple of days ago but I'd managed to hear about the birthday party and knew I couldn't resist seeing everyone. Tucker was off somewhere, didn't have a clue. Probably reading his precious comics, and here is where I roll my eyes at his geeky patheticness.
As well as all that I'd managed to kit myself out quite nicely, being in England did have it perks where clothes were concerned even if I was wearing a dress for the occasion. Ugh never again, hate them, but love the pinstripes!
But the final change was my hair. Much longer, much wavier and way lighter what with getting bleached in the sun, although where the nice weather came from I haven't a clue.
No-one had quite noticed I'd appeared yet and I gave a half nervous, half happy giggle
"Did I miss the surprise part?"

I was almost relieved when Nicki broke the tension. I was still holding the box as if it might explode but my confusion was being overloaded by curiosity. I was looking at the stone inside and it was intriguing, more than that, it held me riveted. Just before Nicki came in I thought I saw a film of white cloud pass inside it and I felt...something but Nicki's arrival disippated it immediately.
