I stood at the entrance, feeling strangely uneasy. I was wearing very normal clothes: jeans and a Tshirt, and my still damp hair was tied loosely back. I had figured that it was appropriate to be casual. The silly thing was that usually I came to places like this looking a lot more... provocative. It lured in the vamps, and gave off an intimidating vibe that kept everyone at arms length. It was just one more part of my defense mechanism. Stepping in here dressed like a normal person made me feel paranoid, exposed and uncomfortable, and my first instinct was the blow this off and go kill something. This was ridiculous. This was not me. What the hell was I thinking, letting my guard down for a guy I barely knew?? What damned difference did it make if the same woman gave birth to us? The next silly thing was that all that just sounded like a cop out. I was chickening out. When the hell did Maya chicken out? Shit. I took a deep breath, despite the stale and stagnant air, and made my way over to Doc and Rogue. "Rum and Coke." I said to the bar tender, and took a seat beside Doc.

"Hey, you made it!" Yeah, that didn't sound to eager at all, he thought as she sat beside him. "I was afraid you'd decide against. Too soon at all," he noticed slightly more casual clothing, more so than when he first met her here. "Not dressed for work tonight?" He said jokingly.

The speed at which he said all this nearly made me laugh. It probably would have if I wasn't so on edge. I downed the drink the bar tended handed me, and slid the glass back to him, nodding for another. I felt better already. "No." I replied, "And it's amazing how much less comfortable I feel. I dont like it."

Remaining silent she sipped her drink watching the two. It was amusing how people interacted between one another. Even she could appreciate human interaction. As time moves by it's easy to start seeing humans as simple creatures but when you really watched them for a while it was easy to see how unique each one was.

"Well, I think it's nice to see you casual," he commented. "Everyone needs a break, right? You can't fight 24-7, you'd burn out and be useless."

I shot him a sideways look but said nothing. If I was totally honest, this was the first time I had had 'time off' other than sleeping and working at the shop (when I spent my time either training or reading spell books) in, well... years certainly. What else do you do when you refuse to make human connections with anyone? Life was much simpler when it was all about the hunt. The last time I had been out for a drink 'casually', I was underage, and that was back in England (where underage means under 18). The more time I spent with Doc, the more it made me realise, very uncomfortably, that I was not like other people, and I hadn't been for a very long time. I looked down, and realised that I had drained my glass again. Good thing I had spent many a night stalking demons in bars, drinking all the while...

"I'm hoping you can hold all that grog you're downing," Doc joked with a smile. "I'd hate to have to try and carry you home. I'd bet you're a mean drunk."

I smirked, "I can." I replied, entirely truthfully. Oh god what am I doing here? I thought. I literally didn't know how to hold a casual conversation. What did people talk about when they came to these places except convincing vampires that they would be an easy meal before staking them? I was in way over my head.

"And what weapon do you prefer?" she didn't bother to look up from her drink ignoring the weird looks she was probably getting. "Honestly, neither of you have had the dream childhood, I'm not sure what you plan on talking about and the fact that you two keep dancing around with silly conversation is just... weird."

"Nice sledgehammer," Doc snarked under his breath, knowing Rogue would hear it. She had a point, he knew all that, he was THERE. Well, for his part anyway. But... seriously, what do you say to your little sister who doesn't remember you and you've been searching for most of your adult life?

"Besides, humans have such a short life span and the way you seem to get yourself in trouble you'll have an even shorter one." She thought for a moment before adding on, "Granted today was different but regardless. Life is short so make the most of what little time you have left." Alright she was a bit twisted in the regard that she would never grow old and die and so far had yet to do something stupid enough to get herself killed. Though she knew her time would come as it does for everyone.

"Im a big fan of axes, theyre good for so many things. But my childhood was fine, thank you very much, apart from obvious interludes which I have no memory of. It was the teenage years that sucked." I paused, considering how much I wanted to say about Doc... ah sod it. "As for me and Doc... is there the slightest chance of either of us ever having any sort of normal life? No. But who gives a flying fuck? We're giving this 'siblings' thing a chance. It might be an almighty disaster, it might get us both killed, or maybe it might just be what each of us needs to keep us alive that little bit longer." I slammed down the empty glass. "Just keep 'em coming." I advised the barman.

Doc smirked, placing his empty cup[ on the bar. "Same," he said. "and Maya's right. We may ony be human, with not a lot of time compared to vampires, but we've also both been burned, I'm assuming. It's not a total surprise that we're slightly hesitant of showing our whole hand. Trust is earned, especially in this case."

She shrugged, drinking a bit more of her drink. "So sue me for trying to stop you guys from doing the strange 'I don't know what to talk about' dance."
If they wanted to do so that was up to them. Part of her chuckled, remembering the games, still letting herself play them every once and a while. They could be fun as well as informational.

"Well, considering I haven't seen her since I was ten," Doc retorted, somewhat bitingly at Rogue. "I don't think there's a whole lot I can ask. What am I supposed to say? 'How was school?'" Really, he'd think that was obvious.
