"Damn, damn, damn..." he'd switched to pacing the shop. Maya had said leaving wasn't wise, but he had a feeling in his gut her Slaying wasn't going as well as she'd planned and there weren't exactly a lot of people (or any) he could call. Crap. Crap.
...Crap. He was strating to sound like Ron Pearlman in that move with the big red demon guy...

I dodged through gravestones, listening for my pursuers, and knowing that some would be circling round to block me off. I needed to take out some of these guys before they got organised. So I stopped abruptly, and spun round, lopping off one vampires head before he had time to stop behind me. The two others with him yelled, and charged, together. This was exactly what I had needed. I was on form. The fight was intense, and unbelievably fast. I had to anticipate their moves before they made them, and soon enough one more went down to the blade of my axe. The last vamp called out to the rest of the clan to get their asses here. I took that moment to drive the pointed other end of the axe right through his heart, just as six angry vamps appeared from round gravestones and over tombs. This bit would be a little harder....

Doc looked at the front door, weighing his options. He had a bad feeling Maya was in trouble, but she said she wasn't sure how the wards would react...
"Ah screw it," he said, heading for hte door and pulling on it to open...
Setting off the wards and landing with himself trapped and floating above the ground. He looked down a moment before sighing loudly. "Ah crap."

I looked round at the vamps, weighing up my options... they had strength, numbers and position on their side.... I was having a hard time figuring out what I had on mine... And then an ear splitting warbling sound began abruptly, which it was clear none of them could hear. "Oh shit." I moaned. It was the magical alarm system in the store... and that meant that someone was trying to get at Doc. "Sorry boys, were gonna have to do this another time." I told the vamps. They laughed, "Yeah right." scoffed the one who appeared to be taking charge. I rolled my eyes. Ok so I hadn't really thought that would work. Oddly the alarm made me realise that I did have something on my side, even if my control over it was dubious... "Marea Mamã, da-mi puterea de foc în mâinile mele." I said, cupping my hands before me. To my delight, and the vamps shock, a ball of flames sprung to life in my cupped hands. I separated my hands and the ball split in two. I smiled at them, "Oh did I not mention that I'm not just a slayer?" I hurled a ball of fire at the closest vamp and he burst into flames, dusting in moments. The other turned tail. I lobbed a couple more balls at them as they fled, taking out two more vamps, but I didn't follow. I didnt have time for this. I scrunched my fists closed, extinguishing the flames, and only then realised that I had kept complete control over the spell. I grinned, and headed off towards the shop at a run.
I went back in the way I left, through the back, and saw immediately that Doc was nolonger on the low bed. I shiffed my axe in my hands and made my way slowly towards the door to the main shop. I glanced round the corner to get an idea of what I was dealing with, and froze, frowning, before relaxing my guard and stepping out. Doc was suspended several foot off the floor, encircled by bands of glowing energy which shifted colours as it pulsated. "I'm guessing you missed the part about my not knowing how the wards would react to an attempt to leave." I said wryly.
((according to google translator the spell is romanian for 'great mother, give me the power of fire in my hands'))

"Ah... would you believe I had a bad feeling you were in trouble and was attempting to make a great, daring and foolhardy rescue?" he asked sheepishly. "Cause i totally was. Had a daring look and everything. Could you get me down from here?"

I chuckled, and walked further into the room, "Sure thing." I replied. The alarm was still ringing in my head and it was begining to be a major pain. I recited the counter charms, and Doc was dumped unceremoniously on the floor. I grinned at him. Maybe I could get used to this having a brother stuff.

"Ow," he muttered, rubbing his arm as he got up. "thanks. So, everything alright then? Cause..." he looked at the book on the floor, still opened at the tracing bloodlines page. "Yeah..."

I followed his line of sight to the book, and raised one eyebrow, "Yah." I said, a little irritated, "Everything is fine."

"Oh good," he said, looking every bit as embarrassed as he should have. He had messed up. Just a little. "Sorry about that."

I smirked, finding it hard to be annoyed when I knew that he meant well... which annoyed me. I sighed, sinking into a chair at the table. "Dont worry about it." I replied, "Though maybe it's time we had that chat.... y'know... lay out all our shit? Maybe then you'll see that as emotionally unstable as I may be," I chuckled nervously, "I can handle myself."

He sighed, sitting down across from her. "Yeah, maybe it would be a good idea," this wasn't going to be pretty. Hell, he was pretty sure she'd kick him out the second he explained his story. "And i guess unstable runs in the family."

I gave him a wry smile. "You go first, seeing as you know the beginning of my own story better than i do."

"Alright," he nodded. "Just... try to keep an open mind," He took a breath, trying to order his thoughts. Where do I even begin, he thought. That's wasn't an easy question to answer, though the beginning was usually a good place to try. "We were a normal family, at first. Mum and dad, you and me, no demons or vampires. Then... then the Council came," images flashed through his mind of men in black suits wearing masks and night vision goggles, flashes of gunfire and the screams as bullets tore through flesh. "Dad was trying to get us out of the way when he was shot. I landed under him and was winded, knocked cold. Guess thats what saved me. When i came to, I was in an empty room that definitely wasn't our house. Raven... he'd found out about the attack and come 'too late'. I later realised with him, nothing wasn't planned. He'd waited. He had some plan for me and that meant everyone i cared about had to die or go missing. The Council obliged happily, and Raven had a focus for my anger. He offered to train me so I could get payback. I accepted, no questions asked. I was 10.
"I took my first kill 2 years later. The guy was... some investigator, I think. Real soft touch. All i had to do was get in, slip a vial of poison into his food and get out. He saw a kid on the steets that needed a meal," his eyes went cold as he looked away. "I watched the poison take affect. He... he didn't even realize. He told me to look away, so I wouldn't see it happen. I didn't. I watched. Raven congratulated me after, told me was a good boy, but... i always had doubts after that.
"Eventually, it all became to much. I was convinced you were alive. I begged Raven to let me go looking for you, I reasoned that if you WERE one of htese Potentials, if you were in line to be the Slayer like he claimed, then you'd be better off with him than with the Council. He finally agreed, gave me full resources. I was 18. I've spent the rest of my life searching. Yeah, there were a couple of times I've had to.... or I've just reacted badly and someone's died. I'm not... proud of it. My time away from Raven, I regained something. Something I'd lost. I felt remorse the first time I killed a guard at a Council house. I didn't know what it was, i didn't understand it.
"LA... I came here because there was a major data storage house, that building we raided that first time we met," he gave her a sideways grin. "It brought me one step closer. Eventually, i had everything I need, and, well... you know what happened after that."

I was silent for a long moment. I had had a shit few years, since the murder of my adoptive family.... But Doc... the moment the council destroyed everything to get at me was the moment that a psycho got the chance he needed to manipulate a child into a killer... Everything that had happened to him was because of me. Not my fault, no, I wasn't the type to take blame where is was not mine. I could not have forseen or prevented what happened, but never the less, it happened because of me. "Yikes." I murmured eventually. "I'm sorry." I could see that he was surprised. Clearly he assumed that I would be appalled by his past. But I had seen enough of people, and evil, and goodness to accept that sometimes essentially good people did unspeakably evil things... nothing excused it, but it happened... and it was really that simple. "This Raven guy sounds like a piece of work." Understatement. I was good at those.

"One way of putting it," Doc snorted, looking past her vaguely. "Good people died... good friends. Maybe... maybe more, i don't know. i was too young, too inexperianced emotionally," he sighed loudly. "Welcome to my life. Expect frequant pity parties."
