"I'll see what I can do." I replied. "Tomorrow." I added, "Right now you rest, and I'll go make sure none of those demons you pissed off are killing people." I grinned, and hopped down off the horse.

"You sure?" He asked. "I'm not that bad..." he got up, wincing in pain as he sat back down. "Okay, maybe I am. Really wish the healing thing worked on myself..."

I chuckled, and then gave him what Im sure seemed like a very odd look. That last thing he had said had made me think... I knew it was within my power to heal him, at least a little, but that sort of thing took a lot of control, and I wasn't sure I had that. I shook my head and sighed, "Yeh... You rest, I'll slay, and I'll come see how you're doing a bit later. It's probably best that you stay put til I get back... I'm not sure how the wards would react to you trying to leave." I gave a nervous laugh, and headed for the back door, grabbing a small fighting axe from a rack on the wall as I went.

"Right, I'll just... stay here," he said, rubbing his shoulder. "Listen, Maya... Thanks. I know we were going with the slow down and giving space, but... I appreciate the hand."

I paused a few feet from the door, and turned back, smiling awkwardly, "No worries." I replied flippantly, though a large part of me was screaming out about how this was creating dependance and responsibility...

"If you say so... he said, laying back on the bed. Honestly, he wasn't so sure, though.

I left quickly through the back door, locking and bolting it before adding my routine wards and defences. I headed off down the street towards one of the larger cemetaries, taking deep breaths to calm my nerves. This was gonna be ok, I kept telling myself... Doc wasn't some harmless schmuck, he was a fighter. He and I live in the same world. It's gonna be alright. The part of me that was always arguing just laughed at that.

Okay, so can't leave, he thought, sitting up again, but there's nothing against looking around a bit.

I reached the graveyard, and almost immediately heard promising sounds- a high pitched female voice saying 'no... no!' and squealing... I hurried towards the noises, leaping over a large tomb, only to find a young couple in a rather intimate embrace, the girl giggling and squealing, until of course she saw me and my axe, and screamed. I rolled my eyes, "My mistake." I said, and headed off again, praying that something dangerous appeared, because I was in desperate need of a good fight!

He walked into the main store area, glancing over the shelves. Magic was'n't really one of his interests but, well... he'd never had a chance to really look at magic books before. He was usually just... 'acquiring' them.

Finally I struck gold- a vamp was heading towards a huge crypt with his arm around a human girl so drunk she could barely stand. It sounded like there was a party going on in the crypt. I grinned. Perfect. I looked down at my clothes... not quite what I would have chosen if I had been planning to be my own bait, but it would do. "Hey!" I called out, making my steps slow and clumsy, "You going to a party?!" The vampire looked startled, but smiled as I continued, "I like parties." I giggled. "Of course you do baby." He replied, beckoning to me, "Come on, you can come with us." I smiled dimly and hurried to join them, simpering and slurring all the way to the crypt. This was gonna be fun.

"Let's see, charms...charm... protection spells. Wonder if there's a 'keep out bloodsucking bitch' spell in there?"

I allowed him to lead me into the crypt, and it became immediately clear that I had wandered into a gold mine... There were at least 10 vampires, but there were also several humans- some apparently willingly letting vamps bite them... although the term 'willing' was pretty loose seeing as not one of them could have stood up straight... and four others were huddled in the corner of a cage at the back. This was a long established nest. I felt almost ashamed not to have discovered before now. The problem was, I had no idea how to dust all the vamps while saving all the humans. Unfortunately, that wasn't even my biggest problem. "Looky what I bought you guys." The vamp called out to the rest. Suddenly, so fast I hadn't a second to do anything about it, his grip on me changed. He flung the other girl away from him and clamped both my arms behind my back, "I got a slayer for dessert." Shit.

It was like something out of a cartoon. One of those moments that couldn't be coincidence. Fate, destiny, call it what you will. someone was sending him a message.
As he reached for the book on protection rituals, his hand accidentally knocked the one next to it, one that had tracking spells. He watched as it fell to the groun, landing open, it's pages showing a spell for devining family trees.
He looked down, a small shiver running down his spine. "Ah crap..."

"Ah crap." I mumbled, rolling my eyes, while the rest of the vampires started paying attention. "How did you know?" I asked. He chuckled, "We been here a long time. We make it our business to know when new players are in town... esspecially ones as tasty as you." I cringed as he sniffed at my throat. My mind was reeling, going through every possible escape plan, cataloging every detail of the crypt. Then a plan formed, and I realised that I was probably insane... but I passed over that, it wasn't important right now. "Ok then." I said steadily, "I'll make a deal with you. Let these humans go, and you can have me, without a fight." They laughed, of course, "We already have you, slayer!" One cried. I smiled back at them. Then I stamped hard on the foot of the vampire holding me, and flipped him over my head when his grip weakened. In moments the stake consealed in my boot was replaced in his chest. If only I hadn't left my axe outside in favour of the subtle approach. "Who's next then?" I asked. Ten shocked and furious vampires glared back at me. I grinned, and turned tail, racing back through the door and grabbing the axe from behind a gravestone. They were following, but this way they would be more spread, and I wouldn't be trapped. Maybe this would be fun after all!
