"Flattering but not even close." She rolled her eyes, positive that he thought he was charming. "Would you like me to let you continue on your way?"

"Well..." he began. Did he? He did like having someone to talk to. But the ide a of this walk was to clear his head. "If you want," he eventually said with a non-commital shrug. "Not like I'm actually going anywhere. Just... mindlessly meandering along."

"Well, you've got the mindless part right," she said, referring to the other night with Jessy.

"Ha. Ha," he said sarcastically, adding one more "Ha." for good measure. "You missed your calling, Rogue. You shoulda been a comedian."

"And I'm sure you could have been many different things," she replied casually as she slipped her hands into her pockets. "The world is full of possibilities and with one simple action a life changes forever."

He remained silent at that. What could he say, really? She was right, there were al sort of things that could have happened, paths he couldn't take.
But you didn't a voice teased in the back of his mind. [iAnd now you're alone.[/i]

"But whats done is done and you cannot change the past," she said, holding her hands behind her back. "Dwelling on it well only being the demons to the surface. Metaphorically speaking."

"Unless they've never really been buried," he laughed sardonically. "Maybe they've been there all along, the only thing driving me. I let them rest, what happens? What am I? What do I become? A weapon without purpose? An assassin without a cause," he shook his head. Was he really so weak?

"I kill demons, vampires, and even humans. Why do I do it?" she replied watching the sky. "Why should you let your demon define you? I don't and I've got a literal demon inside me as well as the figurative demons."

"You have something else," he pointed out. "Like you said, you kill demons and vampires. I go on crazy, hairbrained searches for my sister and piss people off with the occasional sidetrack. That's it. That's all I am. If i turned away from that, what else do I have? The sidetracks?" He sighed, shaking his head. "I've done this for so long, I honestly don't have anything else left."

"You could do what I do," she replied with a shrug. He was probably right from what she could tell about him. He poured everything into the search for his sister and wondered what life would have been like if his family had never been attacked and killed. He would probably be married with 2.5 kids, something she just couldn't see in him, but that was probably because she had never seen him in such a situation. "So what would you do? Quit?"

"I... don't know," he aditted. "Never really thought about it. You know, teh after i found her. I never really thought I'd ever find her, ya know? Now though," he looked at his hands, thinking of the information Maya had promised him. "Maybe... maybe I'm closer than ever. And I still can't see past it."

"That sounds almost promising," she stated watching the other people before looking behind her. "So what was your childhood like before it all happened?"

"Average," he said, looking at the sky. "Two parents, my sister... get up, go to school, come home, bitch about homework, tease my sister, go to bed," he chuckled. "Simple life. God i miss it."

She raised an eyebrow at him. "Well that's pretty general. I remember my father used to tell me stories at night. He made most of them up but he always seemed to have a new one every night. My mother was tough, she always seemed to be fighting with someone and dad always seemed to be weary of her on her bad days. Even though our place was small there was always something going on. Of course mother couldn't cook to save her life. They had their problems of course and things changed after dad died but I still remember that my mother smelled of peppermint, her favorite herb. The magical cure all for anything that ailed you."
