He stuck his head out of the room he was in, looking at her oddly. "really? Gee, when did things reverse?"

Shaking my head I sighed. "Not sure."

"Rather interesting reversal of fortunes."

"Fine," he said, pulling his head back in.

I hated not feeling any fight in me any more. I just couldn't muster up enough energy to care. Was I finally becoming as cold as I portrayed? Before I was willing to do anything for a chance and here I was not caring...

Doc leaned against the wall, sighing quietly. Man, didn't this just suck. He was actually willing to try and he'd missed the boat in a big way. Man, how did he get into these messes?

Resting my head on my knees I sighed, hating the silence and yet I hated the sound as well. I could never seem to decide which I wanted. For a split second I wanted to be near him but I squashed that quickly. It was weird to be close to someone and yet not close.

He walked out of the room, up the stairs, heading for the roof, knowing they wouldn't be able to open the door, but knowing Mal would probably be monitoring things.
"Okay, Mal, you've had your fun," he said quietly. "I don't know how you've done it, but undo it. Now. This isn't helping anyone."

Even from here I could hear him trying to talk to Mal. Would the doors open or would they remain locked? Did I want them to open? Getting up I returned to pacing. "Do you always wait for other people to make the first move?" Would this question lead to anything? Probably but for now I decided it wasn't worth waiting for Mal to make a move since he was either watching us and having a good time or ignoring us.

"No," he said. "But let's look at this logically. All the doors and windows are locked and sealed and unless you want to try going through a wall, this is our only chance."

"I feel like I've been trying to go through a wall." Of course he would think of the situation with Mal first. "Forget I said anything."

"Oh, you meant us?" he asked casually. They were going to keep talking about that? He thought she'd made her stance pretty clear. "Unless I need a favour, yeah."

"I've always been business oriented," he said, coming back down the stairs. "Meaning i've had to try and force a few changes since coming to LA. You'll excuse me if they weren't fast enough for you," his voice had taken on a hard edge. Apparently civility hadn't lasted long between the two.
