"Um, what? Doc, you're scaring me." I looked at him. "Do you want to sit down? On something other than the floor?" I racked my brains. Bells and alarms were ringing loud and clear.

I couldn't help rolling my eyes as I lifted Doc from the ground, only using half of my Slayer strength.
"Stop messing around and start talking. You are the one that wanted to come here," I snapped at the man. He maybe one of the greatest warriors of the group, but when not in the heat of battle, one might almost call his behavior . . . pathetic.
"What? What's wrong?" Jessy demanded to know. I pulled Doc around and firmly, but gently, threw him into one of the chairs the Library had littered around one of the research areas and snapped at him, holding my finger right in front of his face, "Stay."
"Will somebody freaking talk to me! What's going on?" Jessy shouted. I looked at Doc and indicated he should explain.

((Or you could just make a phone call from Cleveland.))
"There's something wrong," I said simply. "I can't hold my energy in my body. Someone or something is leaching it out," I can't go yet, I thought. I've still got things to do.

"It must be working fast. Do you know if its affecting anyone else? No, stupid question. Draining?" I wracked my brain.

"It's just leaching out," I said. "Don't know where to. Anyone else? Not really. Working fast? I was showing off. Jessy, is there something wrong?"

"Something wrong? if this is targeting the cities heroes, this could be disasterous." I wrung my hands.
"Jessy, this hasn't affected anyone but me," Doc said, trying to calm me down.
"Yet." I replied.

"Yet," I agreed. I hadn't even though of that. God, if this hits the others, I could never forgive myself. "We need to get it into gear. You got anything that might give us an answer, Jess?"

"I have a library of books. It might take years to search through them all." I looked around frantically. Then it caught my eye. I heaved the book of the shelf again and opened it to the page I'd thought of.

"Well?" I asked, raking my own brains. Dojo Library, what have I got? Codex, Spells of Asteroth, any hundreds of other books...
Mental note; show Jessy private Library.

I stumbled into the library with a face twisted from the pain I was going through, I looked up and noticed that Doc seemed to be in the same kind of pain as I was in, "I shouldn't have eaten that before I went patroling." I said as I fell to the foor.

I was by the young man's side as soon as he dropped to the floor. "Are you all right?" I asked him. He seemed rather weak as I helped him up.
"Not really," he whispered as he stumbled along, me half holding him up and half carrying him.
I sat him beside Doc and then backed away into the background. I was still an outsider with these people. I did not want intrude where I did not belong.

Something . . .
. . . was . . .
. . . not . . .
. . . right . . .
I was . . . doing something? . . . No. Something was happening, but . . . it wasn't supposed to be happening. I know that. But . . . it was?
I was very confused. Something was happening, I could feel it, sense it, knew it. But I didn't have a clue as to what it was, what it was doing, or what I could do, one way or another about it.

Avalon was busy, and whatever the hell was going on, I just couldn't figure it out right now. So, without letting anyone know . . . I went to see Mai.
She was asleep and dreaming. I waited on the edge of her consciousness, when all of a sudden, her defenses lowered, and I knew it was like an invitation, directly and only to me.
When I left, I blazed back to the sword and to Avalon.
<Avalon! We've got a problem!>

My eyes widened in shock as Joshua explained what he had discovered. I quickly raced back to where the others were, and was rather surprised to see that Rogue Slayer had joined the weakened ones in the research area.
"There is a problem!" I announced.
"Yeah, no shit," Jessy retorted from where she was studying several books at once.
"No," I told them, "Maya is sick as well. Joshua visited her in her dream and she informed him that she has been feeling weak recently. Drained even. Much the same side effects Doc and all the others have mentioned."
"Shit!" Jessy cursed.
