Unexpected Run-In

"I don't know." I gave him a good shut the hell up look.

The beast either didn't understand or didn't care, the growling continued until the beast lept at us. I dug a blade in the chest of the beast, the force of the leap tossing me to the ground, the beast falling ontop of me.

Blinking I looked at it confused. "Thats it?" A deep rumble from the beasts throat alerted me that was most definitely not it. I grabbed the throat of the beast, dropping a blade in the progress but it allowed me to get the beast off me. "... Not a shape shifter."

"How can you tell?" I asked. "I mean, it certainly looked like it could change it's shape."

I stood up quickly, putting some space between me and the creature but keeping me between it and Doc.

"Shifters are still human. Blade to the heart drops them dead."

"Oh crap," I breathed, glad for a moment I'd done some research before moving into America. "Skinwalkers. I think. If it is, we have to wait til they take human form before we can take them out. Try and do it to their beasts and, well... It won't work."

"Well that's something at least." The beast growled as it got up, preparing to pounce.

"Any chance you have a guess as to why it's chosen to attack us?"
