((Ah sod it, cant be bothered to wait for demanding attention to end!!))
It was a couple of days since that mess with the vampires in the warehouse, but I had still been unable to find a moment to tell Doc what Giles had found out... There always seemed to be someone else around, and I really didn't want to put my foot in it by mentioning that subject at the wrong time. So I had decided that seeing as my shop was under the influence of several charms, including one to prevent demon violence within (the last thing i needed was demons eating my customers) and one that prevented any sort of eavesdropping from outside... (From the front of the shop it must seem as though I have amazing soundproofing or something), I would ask Doc to meet me here rather than continuing to try to chase him down. That morning I had slipped an envelope under his door, trusting that Rogue would not open it, with a note inside asking him to meet me at the magic shop at midnight. So now I sat on the counter, waiting.

Doc walked into the shop, having a look around. She'd done good work in a short time (of course he'd known. Informatoin was his life. Literally. Knowing things kept him alive). It almost looked professional.
Nodding as he entered, he walked over to the counter with a lopsided grin. "Got any eye of newt?" he asked cheekily before letting his smile fade. "What have you got?"

"Yes, actually." I said, returning his smile. "And I also have information. Not a lot but its a serious start." I gestured to the big central table and hopped down off the counter, taking a seat on the table with my feet on a chair... I had always been awful at just sitting normally. When Doc had sat, I continued, "Giles says that the council managed to track her to an orphanage in London, he even got the care workers name, but not the name of the family that adopted her." Off his surprised expression, I nodded, "The adoption was already going through when they found her, and Giles reckons it would have been too high profile for them to try to grab her. Apparently the team of watchers who... took... her back in Australia were renowned for thinking they were above human laws, and they did what they did because they could get away with it all that way away... the council just ignored it. But in London there was no way they could get away with stuff like that... so she was just watched."

"Of course," Doc muttered. "It's possible the Australian government doesn't even acknowledge their existence. In the heartland though," he gave a short snort of disgust. "Let 'em get away with it once, but not there. So, she's alive. Or was last they knew," he looked at her seriously. "Then you have th social workers name? Orphanage?"

I nodded solemnly, "Sarah Meyer at the St. Francis Childrens society. Giles reckons that if you can prove a connection to the girl then you might be able to get more information out of them."

Doc nodded, reaching into his jacket and pulling out a yellowed, crumpled envelope. within was a picture of his sister, the latest one he had, a day before the kidnapping, and her birth certificate. Not that, apparently, they knew her name, but...
"Think these will do?" He asked sliding them forward. Of course, he could pay Mal a visit, but, well... he was running out of interesting topics.

I felt a strange lurch in my stomach as though I was about to be sick as I stared at the picture. It was impossible... but of course a lot of young kids look very similar really... "Th-thats... your sister?" I managed to splutter out...

"Yeah," Doc was a bit surprised about that. "Maya? You look like you've seen a ghost. What's wrong?"

I shook my head quickly, "N-nothing." I replied. Alarm bells were ringing... if I was right, then I was in a lot of trouble... Doc was not who he claimed to be. But I couldn't be right. It couldn't be what I thought it was... I would have to keep Doc happy, pretend to be oblivious, and find out what I could. "So... what's your next move?" I asked.

Doc looked at her for a moment, but shook his head. Something spooked her, but he wasn't going to pry. "Take it to Mal. Run it through that database he has in his head, see what comes up. Might have enough keywords for him to come up with an answer," hope. something he hadn't had in a long time. "Wanna come with? Mioght be interesting.

I opened my mouth to make some excuse, but paused... "Erm... yeh... go on then, could be interesting." I forced a smile and mentally checked the various weapons I had concealed about my person at all times.

"Alright then," he said, gathering his stuff and heading to the door. He stopped, turning to her. "You sure you're okay? You seemed a little spooked?" And why did he care? Aside from her help with the info, he really didn't know her. Anything about her, really. And yet... well, he was worried. Wierd.

"I'm fine." I replied, with a more convincing smile. He seemed genuinely concerned... but he must be a good actor as he hadn't made me suspicious before now and my primary mode is distrust... still... he really didn't seem to know why I was acting wierd... maybe that was part of the plan, maybe he wasn't supposed to know, so that I would trust him... but if that was the case, then who was running the show? and why? and how? None of it made sense... I shook myself out of the mental knot and focussed on the present. The best idea was to assume he was the enemy and keep my guard up, and that meant keeping my wits about me. "Lets go." I said, grabbing my jacket and switching off the shop lights.

"After you," he said with a bow, holding the door open. Yeah, there was definately something up here. And it was since she'd seen the picture. Did Maya know her? Was he really so close that he could almost touch his goal? It couldn't be that easy,m not after all this time, surely.
Surely...

I walked stiffly through the door, feeling uncomfortable with my back to him. My inpenetrable walls of defense were wobbling for the first time in a long time. I clung to them, trying desperately to calm myself, keep my head in the game, and stay focussed. Come on, stupid! I snapped at myself, your life might depend on the decisions you make in the next couple of hours!
