Elizabeth watched students she knew from last year and this year (and plenty of ones she had never seen before) order drinks, laugh and talk, a few even came over and chated for a moment before moving on. The table she sat at was covered in papers as she slowly graded them. Pretty normal, right?
Well Elizabeth certainly was not a normal person. Well she was but she knew more about what was going on at night more than most people did.
Oddly enough her class had just finished papers on a comparative essay between Carmilla and Dracula. If only Brom knew how right he was on at least Dracula himself. No one knew really HOW he knew but he did. Dracula probably paid him to write the story. Who knew.

Kyler stood at the counter in his new work uniform... serving muffins and cakes and collecting money which he couldn't keep wasn't his idea of earning some cash... but Martin had insisted he get a normal job. He said it would help him to see the world through the eyes of ordinary people, and also through the eyes of people who ACTED ordinary.
Another sheep came over to him, buying a blueberry muffin and a coffee - how innocent... and he went through the same routine as he had been for the past hour, collecting money, giving change, smiling and wishing them a nice day.
Please, something happen... someone interesting come here... ANYTHING! He thought to himself, continuing the same routine.

Ah, coffee. It had to be the beverage of choice for the slightly stressed out student after a hard night of studying, chatting or partying. Strong smelling, wicked taste and a healthy dose of caffeine to get me raring to go. Of course in my case it was to keep me awake after a particularly annoying hunt the night before. One vamp, total, for a whole night’s work, and that one practically fell on my stake. I’d come to LA to help people, not to compete with a slayer, a couple of weirdos and an even weirder vampire for a few measly dustings.
At least Uni was going well. Sure it was tough, but that was kind of the point, and my languages were already improving. Peering over my blueberry muffin I spotted one of the professors in a corner. An English Lit teacher, I thought, but I couldn’t be sure. I was taking the class in Old and Middle English, to help with arcane texts, but modern (anything after the magna carter really) had passed me by.
The guy who had served me looked as if he wanted to implode. Sure, the smile had been nice, but he had a look behind his eyes that I recognised from most food service employees. It wasn’t pleasant, but hey, what could I do? The guy had looked right through me, though I thought I knew him from somewhere. A few seconds later I relented and went back to the counter on the pretext of getting more sugar. “Hey, do I know you from somewhere? A party, or a club maybe? You seem familiar.”

It was that girl that Doc was with at that bar... the one who seemed to have a problem with Maya. Kyler's memory was good, but he hadn't recognised her the first time, just seeing her as another customer, he hadn't bothered, but now that she grabbed his attention so abruptly, it was hard not to.
"I think we might have met, briefly... though I can't be sure." Kyler answered, sounding honest, and the fact that part of that answer was honest, helped. Though he wasn't sure what else to respond with, he was caught a little off-guard.

I definitely knew him from somewhere - he was lurking in the background of a memory somewhere, as if I hadn't noticed him the first time, which given how inobservant I was, was more than likely. "Well, we're meeting now at least. I'm Jessy. Are you at UCLA then?" I asked. He looked about my age, though with boys it was always harder to tell, and it wasn't like I'd memorised every single one of the thousand of freshers.

((lol, can't really think of anythign to really post. ))
Elizabeth looked up to see a student talking to one of the guys at the counter. To be young... she mused with a small smile before turning back to her work. Of course she always kept her ears open for any hints of demonic activity but she didnt' hear too much and with out a slayer she couldn't do much. She could only call one of the other nearby watchers to see if they had time.
Since Angel's reign there hadn't been any major vampire hunting groups to rise up so she had no one to call.

"We are, indeed." He replied with a smile - her features were exactly as the girl that night, he was sure of it now... he would have to carefully place his questions into the conversation, right after the next customer, "I'm Kyler, er... one moment..."
Choc-chip and Earl Grey tea? He would have thought that most would go for some form of milk/coffee beverage with a choc-chip muffin... guess there were the exceptions. "That'll be $6.90 please."
Exact change - how considerate, he added the money to the till and then looked back at Jessy, "sorry... where were we?" He had purposefully avoided the question about schooling - it gave him some extra time to think about how to be vague about going to Stella's school for the paranormal, something he was sure people didn't just talk about in public.

During the next customer, instead of staring at the guy like a stalkerish freak, I leant against the counter and took a look out of the big glass windows that fronted the shop. Evening was falling fast outside - the sun had set a few minutes before - and the buildings were tinted purple in the half light that remained. The scene was almost pathetically typical; a couple was strolling hand in hand down the road, a gaggle of friends were giggling, a group of vampires were strolling towards the coffee shop, a pigeon was eating some bread - wait, no, not good. Vampires.
By now I couldn't be said to be paying attention to Kyler - I caught his name, and that was that. "Er, you'll have to excuse me," I muttered, heading fast towards the door, but I was too late. The windows smashed in and five vampires swarmed in. Carying stakes in my bag was looking wiser than ever.

She had just finished the last paper when a small gust of wind ruffled the papers a bit. As she was putting them in her bag she heard a loud crash and sudden screams. Great.
One look up told her all she needed to know... vampires. It's hard enough trying to do good some real good without a slayer but having a situation of hungry vampires and a room full of civilians... not good. The last thing on a long list of things she wanted to do.
She slipped a stake from her bag to the inside of her sleeve.
So not good...

People were bleeding from the flying glass, which was never going to help the situation, but the vampires at least paused at the scent. It was pretty strong for me too, demon bits kicking in, but thankfully the whole blood lust was sooo not an issue for shifters. The dying was though, so maybe that evened out the score. "EVERYBODY RUN!" I yelled, rather surprised people hadn't thought of this possibility. Sheep, they were all sheep.
One of the vamps, after freezing for a moment like a kid in a candy store, lunged for me, game face on and snarling, and then there was no time for instructions and witty banter, only hand to hand combat of the funnest kind. Sarcasm, I'm afraid. I was too wary of the people around to transform - I didn't want to be next on the slay list - and so I was pretty much relying on my skills. I was no slayer, though I could use a stake and throw some kicks and hits. Still, it was me who ended up pinned to a table, not the dead guy. It was purely by luck that I managed to drive a stake through the vamp's heart.

Kyler had shielded himself from the glass, which hit his arm and... didn't slice it? That was odd?
He felt the Talent surge inside of him, wanting out, but not being able to do so. Damn work uniform, he didn't have his weapons with him... watching this Jessy stake a vampire while being pinned to a table gave him the sense that it was luck, and that it might not occur again - she was prepared, but she wasn't overly experienced... or at least that was the facade she was trying to hold, though Kyler didn't see much point in such a situation, he kept it in mind just in case.
He looked across the counter and found the large bread-cutting knife - that'll do, did it have to be wooden to kill a vampire? Or would any foreign object shoved through the heart work? He was about to find out.
Ducking down, Kyler moved quickly in a crouched position and picked up the knife, thankful that Jessy, and some other lady that was also out there, were enough of a distraction for these vampires - and Martin had told him that he was good at remaining unnoticed, would be better if it weren't for the damned overstorage of Talent within him.
Taking the knife, Kyler jumped over the counter to face the oncoming threat, putting himself in between the vampires and the fleeing customers... four of them verses three of us... it was relatively even.

I launched myself off the table onto my feet like a cat, scanning the room briefly before moving across to rip what looked like the youngest fledge off a young mother. This vamp was more my size and style – the vamps in my home town had always been young fledges turned by a vamp passing through on the way to some major centre of supernatural activity. They’d barely scraped the dirt from their fingernails before I took them on, and it was hardly surprising that fighting them had been manageable. This was something new entirely, far harder, because these guys knew they were vampires, had known for years, even if only a decade or so, and they knew exactly what they could do. I, on the other hand, knew exactly what I couldn’t do, and that was turn into an animal with a primal power large enough to decimate the blood sucking fiend in front of me. People were always jumping to conclusions when you turned into an animal.
The vamp turned to me and flung me into the wood booth, stunning me for a moment. While I was distracted, stunned by the blow to the head, the older vamp grabbed the baby the mother had been shielding before snapping the woman’s neck just for kicks. It was sickening, but it was not a reason to stop. The vamp with the baby was already sprinting away, and now I could see many members of the group were taking the youngest clientele away alive and with depressing ease. I couldn’t catch them, not now the fledgling was gearing up for a proper fight, so instead I focussed by anger on the future dust bunny. A trickle of blood slipped down my forehead and I spared a glance towards Kyler. “That’s not going to work,” I groaned, tossing the boy a stake from my bag before throwing a punch at the vamp. “You lot are going to pay for that.”

Kyler caught the stake, but now he was at a crossroads. Jessy was dazed, and he wasn't sure if she could handle a vampire in such a state, but on the other hand, some were getting away.
He looked over at the older woman who had remained behind, concealing something and not yet moving... he was able to conclude that she was experienced and would know better what to do. The vampires that took to the street were a group - something that Kyler wasn't sure he could handle alone, and so he decided to assist his new acquaintance and came at the vampire going for her from behind, snapping a thrust kick at its knee before going for a stake to the heart. He knew he was quick, he just hoped this vampire wasn't quicker.
If he could free Jessy, or at least give her some ease in this fight, it would give them a chance to chase down the other group, or at least give the older woman the freedom and time to do so.

Elizabeth watched the two college age students fight for a moment. She wasn't used to other people who knew about the paranormal. A vampire moved to push her aside but instead she tripped the vampire and with a movement she slipped the stake into her hand before moving to stake him. The vampire grabbed her hand which wasn't too hard to do since she had not the speed of a slayer. She had the technique but not the ability to use it so powerfully.
The vampire grinned and pushed me back several paces, giving him enough time to jump to his feet. He was quite annoyed about being knocked down by a mear human but the promise of dinner soon to come was more appealing then the brawl in the cafe which was starting to attract attention and he took off running.
In the distence the feint sound of sirens could be heard. LAPD. Being that this was such a big city there wasn't much of a surprise that they would arrive so soon after.
She glanced over at the two teenagers who were busy with a vampire.
Without a word she took off after the vampire, shoulder bag in hand. She had a cross and a water bottle of holy water in it. Not that it'd be much but it would provide a little extra something.
Silently she was thankful that she kept so active or the idea of running would have been exhasting.
((Sorry for the weird post, it's 3:30am and I'm tired and the last week has been a rollarcoaster of good and bad.

(((It wasn't gmodding... not from my perspective anyway, last post you posted, you were standing there, so it was what my character saw, was all... and the other comments weren't controlling of your character at all, it was my character thinking of what to do in order to perhaps free up yours to do whatever. That's not gmodding, cause I didn't make your character do anything. O.o)))
