"About earlier," I reached forward, caressing her cheek. "Someday," I said with a smile. "Just not yet," from the look on her face, i could tell she knew what I meant. I turned to join the others. "But don't think that means you can sit around feeling sorry for yourself. Get out there, or I'll let Jessy set you up with someone."

"See you at the Dojo guys." I said quickly, whipping out my dark shades, slipping them on, and setting off. There was something about a motorbike that meant you could go just as fast as Doc or Katley's driving, and it jsut felt right rather thatn terriffying. Nicki whooped once as we sped past buildings and cars, and i grinned into the wind, goddess i love thins bike. We got back to the Dojo long before the others, and headed to the kitchen for a drink.
"So how you doing Nicks? You've not been around for a while... again."

I leaned against a table, drink in hand, and looked at Mai. She was right, I did have a tendency to completely leave.
"I'm in therapy if you could believe that," I replied laughing. "Which is kind of working I guess... Coming back to LA was supposed to be like the final stage of this whole bullshit memory recovery thing, but now I'm here I just don't want to leave anymore."
I sighed and took a sip of my drink. "What's been going on, Mai? I can see it in your face, something bad happened, and as much as it kills me to ask... You guys are my family. I need to know."

I had been waiting for it, but somehow the question still felt like a tonne of bricks.
"I..." I sighed, and not quite meeting her eyes, i started, "a new bad guy came to town... well, kinda new... a vamp called Orestes... he was... he IS the guy who turned my brother."
"Oh goddess..." Nicki gasped.
I just nodded,
"He's wierdly fixated on me, pretty much seems to have decided to make me as miserable as possible... he... he's old... powerful... he has a lot of sway even with demons who usually hate vamps... he got a load of demons and vamps to attack all over the city, made us all split up... and set a trap for Joshua." I knew she was guessing what was coming, trying to work out if she had seen any sign of Josh since she'd been back. There was a lump in my throat as i tried to say it.
"I... i got there as quick as i could when i realised... but he had shields up, magical barriers i couldnt break right away..." My voice was getting quicker and more high pitched.
"Mai..."
"He killed him." I said finally, "To get at me. He wanted me to flip out and give in to the magicks..."

"Fuck," I whispered. "I'm so sorry, Mai, I mean I know that you probably don't want sympathy, most of all from a girl who bails town whenever she gets a chance but..."
I trailed off and set my drink down, pushing myself away from the counter to stand in front of her. I placed my hands on her shoulders and smiled. "So I'm going for the cliched approach, but from now on I'm always here. If the dark side ever tries to take you back, Goddess help me I will use everything I have ever learned to kick some serious arse. This Orestes vamp? Doesn't know who he's dealing with."
It probably wouldn't help at all, but I wanted to make my mark. I remembered that the first time Josh died I had left town soon after. Now I'd left town before it happened, never saying a final goodbye. I shivered as my mind wandered into forbidden territory; who would be lost next?

I appeared out of black smog in the dojo just as Maya had told Nicki about Joshua...
I quietly walked into the kitchen and simply stood there, not wanting to interfere... neither Maya nor Nicki had noticeed me, wether or not they did, was none of my concern, I was told to wait here, so I did. It had been so long, yet I was still not used to socialising with humans, it was something I would probably take a while to learn...

I managed to crack a smile- sure Nicks was gone alot, but she was one of the first people i met in LA, and the only one who didnt immediately threaten my life. She was my sister.
"Thank you." I said, and hugged her.

It was nice to see her happy soon after that event that happened not too long ago, at least she looked happy...
