Hidden in the darkest corner of Los Angeles, in the dimly candle-lit back room of a club few dare to enter, esspecially those with souls, sat a woman shrouded in a black cloak, the hood pulled forward to shadow her eyes. What i could see of her face was ravaged by age, the wrinkles creasing her features told of countless years of life, and that slight, knowing smile was capable of chilling to the bone.
But i was not afraid. I couldn't be, not if i was to get what i had come for. I had ensured that Josh would be at the uni, and Aila at school, and that Doc was busy.... noone knew i was here, so no one could stop me, but on the other hand, no one could help me if i had trouble leaving this place... When i entered, she spoke before i could introduce myself.
"Ah. So you have come at last." She said.
"Er, yeah." I replied, "I've come for..."
"I know what you are here for, child." She snapped, "You think my age makes me senile?"
"No, I..." I was annoyed, she was trying to put me off guard.
"Sh." She said. "Now, child, my question is, are you ready for that which you want?"
"Yes." siad stiffly.
"Really? It is more powerful than you can imagine, and takes great strength to fight it's hold. Can you be sure that you can control it?"
"I have to." I replied simply.
"Yes, yes, this great fight... you are prepared to make such a sacrifice, if it comes to that?"
"Yes." I replied, quieter now.
"Then take it." She held out a black velvet pouch, and i took it. "But do not use it lightly, and never underestimate its power, child."
"I wont." I said. "How mu..."
"Do not insult me. Take it and leave." The old woman ordered. I nodded,
"Thank you." And left the room. I pushed my way through the club, and breathed deep when i emerged into the bright sunshine finally. I looked down at the pouch that lay in my hand. "No going back." I murmured, and hurried to my bike to get the hell out of there.
