No wonder she was so shaken, I thought as we listened, a gentle hand on her shoulder.

[Maya]

"Oh jess..." I didn't know quite what else to say. i knew that right now she felt no one could understand... but i did, far too well. "jessy- we'll make it right, ok?"
"How?" She snapped, "You cant, you..."
"We can." I insisted. "if we make him a soul saber, calling his own soul down into it, he'll be ok."
"You can do that?" she asked. I looked to Doc,
"I think so." I said. "It'll be ok, Jessy... we have enough knowledge to make it ok... This time." I added the last in barely more than a whisper, shoving my own painful memories away, stuffing them down inside- Jessy needed me now, i would not be weak.

I started to speak again. "So he walks up to me and takes the crossbow from me and drops it on the ground. Then he says, "Well well, Jessy. Wondered when I'd be seeing you. Like the new me? Maybe not. Well I'm sorry but Grace prefers me this way." Then I said "Grace?" and he nods and says, "Grace. Come on Jessy you knew we would never make it. Your just too young for me kid."" My voice cracked. "Then...then he kissed me, shoved me down and was about to feed off me when someone, I think the girl vamp, Grace, called him and he shifted and flew off. I was so scared."

It was a flicker, a moment. Nothing that anyone else would notice. But in that moment, I realised we three had been through something very similar.

And that was when Desere burst in.

"Permanent invite?" Maya asked. I nodded.

"I presume Pepper called you?" I asked. She answered by swearing in Cajun.

"It's true, den," she said. "Damn it to hell, I was too late. I just finished de damn t'ing..."

"Finished what?" I asked. No way.

"Dis," she pulled a Soul Sabre out from under her jacket and right away, i knew who it was for.

Rory.

"Actually, Des," I said wryly, running over my mind what we needed to do. "You're just in time."

[Maya]

"Grace?" I said, in almost a growl. "Right then- Doc, you figure out this saber thing- I'm going hunting."

[Jessy Jackson]

"I'm coming."

"No you are not"

"Yes I am"

I smiled as Rory sucked the girl dry, and then threw her limp body across the room. "Better?" I asked, and he nodded. I reached out to him, took his hand, and licked the blood off his fingertips. "So, who was that girl, earlier?"

He snarled, and kissed me roughly. "Jessy." He mumbled against my lips, and I pushed him away slightly.

"Old girlfriend?" I pouted, and he nodded. "What shall we do with her?"

"Have her for dinner."

[Maya]

"jessy..." I sighed, but i understood, she wanted this bitch bad. Only thing was that they would be waiting for her... I knew, sick as it was, that Rory would want jessy... want her blood. And why? Because he loved her.
"Ok. fine." I snapped, "but you do what i say, alright?"
"This is.." She began to agrue.
"Important to you, i know." I interupted, "Which is why you're irrational, and if you dont listen to me, youre likely to get yourself killed, so please, jess, just do as i say." i handed her a stake, and checked from my katana.
"Show me where it happened." I told her.

"I understand," I whispered. Jessy turned angrily.

"How could you...?" She started.

"Jessy, wait..." Des began, i cut her off.

"Long before I moved to LA, I lived in Japan," I started. It still hurt, thinking about it, but i had to let her know. "I'd found an old Sensei and his granddaughter. Senseis was teaching me to fight, so I could protect others from what had happened to my sister. Jasmine... She was beautiful. Most peautiful black hair you could imagine.

"Was it love? I don't know. I know it hurt when I found her, bloodeagled in the dojo."

"Bloodeagled?" Pepper asked. i'd almost forgotten the girl was there.

"Her ribs her...spread apart," I said, tears threatening to overcome me. "You could see her insides. She was nailed to a wall, her arms and legs outspread...

"I was so full ov rage, i went hunting. I was consumed by a need for vengence. Then i found teh creature who had done it. Her own grandfather, turned by... I don't know. Whoever it was had a mad on for me for some reason. I dusted him, but that was the beginning of my time as Francois. I'd given up on humanity, I figured if I killed off my emotions, cut myself off, I'd be better. What I did... I won't let you go there, Jessy. Even if I have to drug you and tie you to a chair, you will not become what I became. I will not allow that to happen to you. you're...the closest thing I'll ever know to a daughter."

Doc's story bought my own right thumping back into my mind, and a tear escaped my eye.
"No, pepper, two is too many already. Lets go jess." I said sharply.
"Mai?" Doc said with a frown. Good old Doc, the guy didn't miss a beat. I turned back stiffly, and forced a smile.
"My brother." I told them. "My elder brother was turned when the rest of my family was killed... i was so glad to see him i... Anyway, Jessy, i understand, ok? Can we go now?"

Her reaction to the 'rang, me as her big brother, a lot of things started falling into place.

"Be careful," I said. "Pepper, can you teleport?"
