I took a deep, meditating breath, trying to calm my nerves as I looked at myself in the mirror.
"Are you sure everything is going to be OK?" I asked for the fifth time. I was speaking to a future me, the one from tomorrow morning actually. We were communicating via a semi-portal called a Time Window, a complicated spell I learned a long time ago that allowed me to see future or past events without actually having to travel to those times.
"For the fifth of twenty times, YES!" he told me. He was dressed in casual shirt and T-shirt, whereas I was dressed in my very best. Not quite a tuxedo, but definitely a suit with a cotton-pressed white collar shirt, black slacks, high-gloss shoes that were as practical as they were fashionable, and a simple navy blue blazer. I was trying to decide on the tie right now.
"OK, now which tie did you wear, and did she like it?" I asked him.
He rolled his eyes at me as I kept switching between either one in my hand. "Don't you think I already asked that question?" he asked me sarcastically.
"So what did you tell me?" I asked seriously.
He scowled and rolled his eyes again, before looking back in memory and he chuckled slightly. "Actually, Mai's going to rip the tie off of you as soon as she sees you after using it to drag you in for a kiss. The red one," he told me as I turned to glare at him.
He'd been teasing me about little stuff having to do with making out with Mai ever since I had opened the window. And as annoying as that was, I was still *WAY* too nervous about our date tonight to go into this blind, as they say.
"This date does end well, right?" I asked him as I finished putting on the red tie.
When he hesitating in answering, I froze and slowly turned and stared, panic setting in, as well as a bit of anger.
"Uh, well . . ." he scratched the back of his head with a sheepish look on his face. "The date actually happens, don't worry about that. Despite some close calls, that I've been told about second-hand, there *is* a date. But . . . well, I'm not going to tell you. Because *I* don't want you to know. And you don't have the excuse that most people do about being denied future knowledge."
I glared at him and turned back to fixing my tie.
Once I looked well enough, I sighed and asked again, "But everything is going to be OK, right?"
"Yes! I'm here aren't I? Not in the hospital, not crying over Mai or her over me. Everything turns out OK in the end."
"But..."
"Nice try," he glared at me. I sighed. He couldn't blame me for trying.
"Now what weapons am I going to need?" I asked, turning from the mirror to a closet I had in my dorm room. A closet where I kept enough weapons that even Doc sometimes borrowed from me.
He sighed, rolling his eyes again, I tend to do that a lot when dealing with past-selves, and quickly listed precisely which weapons to take and where to hide them. Curious, despite following the directions, I almost asked about putting a knife under my pillow and two swords between the matresses on my bed, but I decided not to at the last second.
"Are you sure that's everything?" I asked, just to make sure.
He scrunched up his face in concentration for a second the nodded his head saying, "Yep. Well, besides the silver-loaded gun and throwing dagger you're going to have to put in Mai's purse, but Doc's going to give those to you, so don't worry."
"Purse?" I asked, surprised.
(((I knew we'd eventually get to this storyline, but seeing how long Battle Royale and it's sub-parts are going to take, I figured might as well get this rolling. *THIS* part (Preparation) is meant to be the pre-date jitters. Basically it's me and Mai getting ready on our respective ends for the Date (Which will be posted in 'The Spot' as "The Date") and all our so called "Friends" giving us pep-talks and advice before hand. This should be Fun. Also, besides the Date in 'The Spot' there will be 'First Date (The Activity)' will either be in L.A. at night or the Grave Yard. I'm thinking 'At Night' but obviously post-apocalypse and everything is normal, hunky-dory.)))
