i decided that i should do a little bit of astral projection. ever since i had heard about Karen and searched for her until i could join her i had learned a few tricks that i could do during projection. i could now harm people using mental force, and damage things that are not seen. i smiled. it felt so good to be evil.

Post by Joshua on Sept 30, 2004 15:04:31 GMT -5
<Wish-timeline during 'The Testing', now just called "Joshua vs. Francois">
I breathed heavily, barely able to keep the sword upright as I stood there, glaring at my opponents. Please note the 's' on the end of that word. It indicates the plural form of the word is in use, and that means that there is more than one of them. In my case, a warrior that made most demons cringe in fear at the mere mention of his name. A demon fighter that had been known as Doc and was a very good friend of mine, gone insane and in the tradition of good fighters gone insanely bad, took a new name for himself. Francois.
And a big ole honking black, shadow of a demon. That shadow was kicking my ass while Francois sat back and laughed about everything from my bruises to the sounds I make when I didn't dodge in time.
Luckily I wasn't the only one injured. Unluckily, my opponent was a pure soul form and it only took a thought and a minor bit of energy to repair itself. It might be a little bit drained, for about a week, after this fight, but it would still exist.
Finally I caught my breath back.
"Never figured you were one for holding back Francois, even when you wanted to torment your opponent," I chastised him. For the past 87 minutes I had been making small talk and banter, trying to either get Francois angry enough to attack me himself or remind 'Doc' of who he really was. All I had gotten for my efforts was laughter. I still hadn't played my ace, but I was holding out for the last second of my self-imposed time limit.
At the last second, myself, I jumped back, narrowly avoiding the blow the giant shadow had thrown at me. I twisted and dodged his follow-ups, having got his rythym about two minutes ago, as well as the clues about his change-ups
89 minutes since this fight started, and Francois was still standing there, his expression almost gleeful, trails of dark energy leading from the Soul Sabre, or maybe Demon Sabre would be more accurate, was fastened on his back to the shadow of whatever demon was inside the weapon. Time was up.
"Doc, stop this! Tell me one thing before this goes any further!" I shouted at him.
"And what would dat be mon ami?" Francois teasingly remarked.
"How would Jasmine react if she saw you right now? What your Sensei, your real Sensei say to you if he saw how weak you are that you act like a bully and let some mockary of a split personality control your life? And considering that you happen to be evil right now, how long is it before you team up with Long Dow, huh? I don't care what you say or do, we both know you hate him more than *anything* else in this world!"
Francois paused, and then a pained expression crossed his face. His hands, shaking, came up and grabbed his head like he was having the mother of all migraines at that moment. A groan of absolute anguish crossed his lips.
"J-j-Joshua . . ." he cried out.
"Doc?" I called hopefully. Then I noticed the shadow was shaking somewhat. At first I hoped that it was disappearing as Doc fought to regain control of himself . . . and then I figured it out and my face slipped back into the cold mask I had perfected while out in the desert.
Francois' cries and groans of pain soon turned to the now familiar laughter and he was probably about to make some silly 'Super Villian' remark about the futility of holding out hope.
The second hand passed the 90 minute mark.
And Francois never got to open his mouth as a small storm of throwing knives flew straight at him. Moving with inhuman reflexes, he drew the Demon Sabre and deflected every single one of them. As well as the small poisoned needle, unfortunately the only one I had, which Avalon had shown me how to make and made me add to the arsenel of weapons on my person.
"I'm sorry Doc," I whispered, my expression blank, matching the cold tone of my voice, "You were a good friend." The Soul Sword snapped up into position and began to shine brightly as a solid pure white glow ran up from the hilt to the tip of the blade. Beams of light shone out around us, piercing the shadow of the demon, which seemed to scream in pain although no sound of it was heard, before it dissipated entirely.
"Light of the Pure Soul!" I shouted, completing the Field Spell.
The Teacher who had helped me make this weapon may have taught Doc everything Doc knows about Soul weapons. That doesn't mean Doc knows everything he knew.
"Fool," Francois drew his blade, and obviously tried to bring the demon back, a shocked look crossing his face when nothing at all happened.
"A version of anti-magic field," I explained, while I tied off my sleeves while slipping off the weights on my belt, jacket, and boots. "Only specifically targeted for the form of magic that Soul Sabres give off. All offensive abilities, beyond striking, are either canceled, or cut in half in terms of energy. I made this weapon Doc. I know it better than Avalon did."
"Who?" Francois acted like he didn't care, but he also had no real clue about who I was talking about. Which meant he really didn't remember Avalon, or something else had happened to her. I had to find out. But first, I have to kill Doc, or Francois, or whoever you want to call him.
"Oh and by the way, while the spell just cancels out a Soul Sabre's spells, since it's called Light of the Pure Soul, it destroys demonic energy, especially demons. Looks like you've lost the advantage," I smirked as I added in a lousy French accent, "mon ami." <End Flashback> (((Since everyone seems to have figured out, or has been told <Looks over in Maya's direction> about the whole Wraithe idea, Joshua in the past here needs to die a particularly . . . CROW-like death here. And if anyone, I will leave it up to Doc on who, wants to join up with Francois in taking him out and making a Wraithe, talk to Doc.)))

I looked down at her body, so still it was unnatural, so pale it didn't seem real. She looked so young, was so young, it was so wrong. "I'm sorry Jess." I whispered and picked up her cold form. I should have left the body there, should have but couldn't. I knew Jessy was gone, it wasn't her any more but something made me do it. It could have been how close she was to Doc, she had been almost a reminder of him before everything changed but more than that I had come to respect her as we fought together. I had hoped never to see this but we each knew that it was unlikely we'd both survive. I kissed her forehead gently and threw her body to the sea, watching until it was out of sight. "One ally down, one to find." I muttered concern for Maya renewing. Sure death was hard to get over but in these times you saw it too often to slow you down for long. I set off speedily to a vantage point from which I should be able to see the building Maya had headed towards.

(((Sabre, duh.)))
Damn, damn, DAMN! So close, Jessy could have done it too. Now what? Charlotte hadn't even seen me and I was not going to stay down here.
There was a shimmer of light as a familiar figure apeared next to me. That could be who I thought it was.
"I can't believe this is happening," the figure said. If I had a throat, my breath would have caught in it. I reached out tenatatively. It was her! There was hope after all.
'Hey, sis,' I said. She smiled and picked my up as i filled her in on my plan.
"We better get a move on then," she said.
(((Remember, she has to earn her way to paradise. I figured, since I can't use Jess, this'll do.)))

(((Back to the flash back. Fracois v Joshua.)))
"Hm. Heh heh hahahahahahahahahahaha!" I laughed. Joshua looked at me starngely. "I t'ink you misunderstood, mon ami. No one said anyt'ing about the Sabre containing a demon. Just a soul darker dan mine. But since you wish to make this interestin', allow me to do so," I pulled a small crystal out of my pocket and threw it to the ground, black mist climbing around our ankles. "I hope you weren't hoping you little Ninja tricks would help, mon brave. 'Cause dat's no longer an option. Dis little trinket contains the trapped souls of ninjas, corrupted and enhanced to stop deir brethren from using deir little disappearing acts and multipliers. Now, I belive de ninety minutes is," my Sabre came up in front of me, once more charged. "Shall we?"

A witch, I forget her name came running up to me. "Karen, it is done. The soul has been destroyed. Joshua is no more." My head snapped up.
"Well done. Did we lose anyone?" The spell was very intense. Nearly all energy had to be given and some witches never made it. This witch fidgeted a bit before speaking.
"One. But she was weak."
"Then all is well."
