I stood in the doorway, and looked inside the bar, then back out into the cold, rainy night- patrol... drink... patrol... drink... i bit my lip... eeny meeny miny mo... Drink. I stepped in, a couple of people looking at me oldly as i walked in from the pouring rain without a drop on me. Hey, i wouldn't wanna ruin my clothes now would i? these were my favourite jeans, and y'know how heavy jeans get when they're wet. I got myself a drink, again a couple of people giving me wierd looks cos it was more than clear that i was underage. God i love being a witch. I shrugged off my slim, 3/4 length leather jacket to reveal a deep red top, and sat back in a chair in the corner, and watched.

"So what brings a dame like you to a joint like this?" I say in a rather poor Humphrey Bogart accent, as I turn in my stool to look at the dry Slayer. In more ways than one.
She glared at me, obviously only now spotting that I had already been here before here. I just shrug and smile at her and pass her a glass of beer and return to my own.
It's her move now.
Absently I accelerate the aging process of the brandy in my glass until it has truly ripened and smile with appreciation at the wonderful flavor.

I looked at the beer, my eyebrows raised in suspicion, and then back at Josh- what the hell was this?? Joshua being nice to me... right... i could only presume he wanted something. But hey, free beer. I downed my drink and started on the one he got me before i insulted him and he changed his mind... which lets face it was likely to happen. "I come to this particular joint practically every night." I said dryly.

With a calm smile, which I'm pretty sure I can only manage when I'm well on my way to being totally pissed, (that's drunk for everyone that's never seen an English-produced TV program), I just shrug at her and remain in my seat.
"And I come here to relax with my normal friends from college," I point behind me at an extremely rambuncious crowd of college coeds at the pool tables.
I'm sure the sullen and embarrassed look tells Maya the whole story. Which I'm now sure she'll start to rub in my face.

My eyes flickered over the crowd, and i murmured, "Lucky you." normal friends... some semblance of a normal life... it just seems like a dream now... "Well." I said, "I wouldn't wanna hold you up."

At that precise moment, there was a loud shout as the very drunk, and well on their way to being passed out pissed, college coeds got excited over something. I blushed slightly and tried to hide in my drink.
"I remember Willow talking about Cordelia in her early High School days," I say, probably just to start a conversation, mostly because I'm drunk. "And how she was with *her* 'normal' friends." I chug back the last of the brandy and wave my glass for my third.
"Count your blessings May," I say as I age the refilled glass of brandy to a ripe old age, "Because while a Slayer and a Witch don't have many friends, those that she does have, are true friends indeed. And I can count those . . . " another chug, " . . . on one hand."

"Cheerful." I murmured, happy that it took alot to get me drunk. Joshua downed his drink, and waved his glass for another, but i put my hand over his glass, "Stop." I said, and he looked at me, confused. I rolled my eyes, "I dunno whats with you tonight... infact, i never know whats with you- but i appear to be stuck with you, and i'm afraid i'm not in the mood for clearing up some drunk's puke, so snap out of it."

I stare at her for I don't know how long. Then I realize that, with me at least, time is entirely perspective.
"This . . . " I gesture rather drunkenly (Even as intoxicated as I am, I find it fascinating that I can still identify my motions, thoughts and speech correctly and utilize them properly without sounding like an actor's bad acting of a real drunk.) behind me at the group of what she called "my friends", ". . . this is a Wake."
"Huh?" she asked, confused.
I swallow despite my mouth and throat being drier than any desert. "One of the PAs in my dorm was found dead yesterday. From an 'animal attack according to the medical report. I'm sure I don't have to explain that, now do I?"
Maya, as pale as I was when I found out, just nodded her understanding.
"And I staked him just as he was waking up this morning in the Campus Morgue," Really neat thing about time manipulation, I can refill my glass without taking away any of the alcohol already in my body, from my body. I, very stupidly I find out, drink the whole glass in one chug and end up with a migraine of a headache when I'm through.
"They don't know of course. This is just them, getting through the grief of losing somebody they knew to the cursed with coincidence existance they call Life, naming the whole thing a terrible accident. Tragic. All that."
"And here I am," I sip the next beer, which is beer not brandy, "I know the truth, and just to save face, I have to go on with calling it a tragic accident too. As for the vamp that did it . . . well, I understand you had a very successful patrol last night."
I hand her another beer while I take a water bottle that the barkeep gave me to help me sober up some.

Again i wondered about the beer, but i squashed my pride- the guys in morning for christs sake. "I'm sorry." I said, "But yeah, i dusted several last night... but obviously i cant promise anything." He nodded slowly- i supposed that any faster movement would make him queasy. "And... about having to stake him... i know how you feel. Been there." I forced a sympathetic smile. Then i raised my glass, "To lost friends?"

I smile at her.
For once, even if only for a few moments, whatever rivalry or whatever it was between us didn't matter. I raise my water bottle (I don't drink coffee, it makes me hyper and you DO NOT want to see a Time Wizard hyper) and say in a somber tone, "To lost friends. And to those that go on after them, and those after them."
If anybody else we knew was going to walk in, now would be the absolute WORST time for them to show up.

I heard his thought- i think maybe he meant me to, but still, i grinned, it was too true. I swigged my beer, and looked over at the drunken students. Several girls were crying, clinging to each other for comfort. I felt sorry for them, yes... but there was still that harder side of me that felt a different sort of pity- pity that they were so niave as to miss the truth that was around them. Human beings are their own destruction, i thought to myself- they shut out things they fear... so they're not ready when those things force their way through. I sighed, I will never understand people.

"Hi you two," I said as I walked over, "What's happening?" I sat down and called for a beer.

I walked in completely drenched and sighed as I ran a hand through my now blackish hair. Looking down I had to sigh again as I took in my gross wet jeans and gross near see through shirt, luckily I had a t-shirt underneath.
Looking around I noticed a few odd things but I walked straight over to the bar after spotting the three of them and sat on the other side of Maya
'God it's disgusting out there!' I warily eyed her dryness 'You've either been here a while or you need to teach me that spell Mai. And what is going on in here? Feels like death' I babbled on as the barman gave me my usual 'Thanks'

"Tactful, Nick." I said. I dried her off with a wave of a hand, and indicated the group of students, "It's a wake... friend of Joshuas."

'Oh' I looked at Joshua 'Sorry man. Anyone know what happened?'
Joshua looked at his glass for a second
'Animal attack'
'Oh' It suddenly clicked where I'd heard that description before 'Oh! That sucks... Literally. I remember when I lost my sister they kept telling me that what I had seen was someone stabbing her in the neck with a fork, I mean how obscure can you get right?'
I took a swig of my drink and sighed. Death is always so damn depressing.
