Time to get involved, i thought, heading into the club for the first time since Charlottes death.
"Don't be too hard on her," I said, coming behind the girl. She jumped a bit, turning to face me. "She has her reasons."
"And those are?" The girl asked.
"Her reasons," I said simply. "I might tell you. but first, I need to trust you."

"Oh by the way I HAVE been to your world and I know the demons aren't mean. One of them's a distant relative actually. It's just that around here we don't get too many nice demons".

"Her brother?" I asked with a flicker of my eyebrows. "Oh. Well... I am Vala."
"Chosen." Doc said thoughtfully.
"Ah... yes." I replied. Then to Pepper i said, "A relative? Do you know their name? It is possible that i might know them."

As i walked out of the bar minutes later, slurring and giggling like a drunk teenager, with my arm around the shoulders of the vamp i had picked, i tried not to think about the new girl. She had... rattled me, and for the life of me i couldn't say why. He led me outside and pushed me up against the wall, i giggled,
"Ooh, rough." I slurred.
"You dont know the half of it." He sneered. I tried not to wrinkle my nose at his filthy breath as his hands roams over my body. I felt a lump in my throat. Ew, gross I thought.
"Ok, thats enough." I said, perfectly sober.
"No.." The vamp said, putting his game face on. Sudden his hands were anbout my wrist, with gfrip hard as iron, and all his buddies were around us. "I dont think so." He growled. I tried to knee him, but he blocked it, pressing me against the wall so that i was imobilised. So i tried magic... and nothing happened. He grinned at me. "That thing working?" He asked his friend over his shoulder.
"All magic within about 20 metres disabled." His mate confirmed.
"So..." He said, his face disgustingly close to mine, "The great and powerful slayer, all helpless and alone. Yes, i know who you are." He added at my look of surprise. Shit, i'd underestimated him! And he was so bloody strong! "And now, "He said, "the big finish." I wriggled like hell as i felt his breath on my throat, and i cried out as i felt his fangs break my skin. I wriggled so hard, even trying to get my hands in a position to... yes! I dug my nails hard into his hand, and the vamp leapt back with a yelp. The next minute or two were very painful for the bad guys, and ended with a nice scattering of dust. I stumbled back against the wall, one hand going to my bleed neck, and i folded to the ground, knees up to my chest and tears flowing freely.
I knew now what got me about Vala- innocence. That which Aila had, and Charlie had seemed to have when i first met her. I hugged my knees to me as rain began to fall, and i cried.

"Bad feeling," I muttered, looking around. No Maya, the vamps she was after were gone and a witch nearby was saying something about not being abel to feel her magic at that moment. "Oh no," I growled, moving for the exit. Please be alright, please, let her be alright...
I found her in the alley, hugging her knees to her and sobbing, her neck bleeding. "Maya?" I whispered, going to her side. "Mai, you okay? What happened?"

I smiled happily. "First chance to save the world tomorrow." I said. "Wait no I've done that before, this time I'm getting payed for it. But I'll be gone a while."

"Not sure." I said. " A week at the most. Some guy is going to give out PC's to schools all over the contry and my "employers' think that he's not a saint like schools do. I go in as a tester, find out anything. Then come back out before they hand out the computers this Saturday. so I'll probabaly be back sometime next week."
