I was a little taken aback yet again. Maya. This woman was the slayer Maya... but perhaps i should not mention what i was told right away- it could seem rude or presumptuous. I felt her checking me over, but i knew it was only because i had been trained carefully in telepathy- my guardians were a telepathic race. I could tell that this woman was powerful. And the purple haired witch/werewolf- she too had quite some power in her. Not to mention that the girl i had been talking to now declared herself royalty... i was confused. The ettiquette i had been taught had been thrown out of the window, so i was a little lost. Still, i nodded in acceptance, and said again, "I am known as Vala, and i have grown up in another dimension to this." "So what are you?" The shapeshifter asked, "Witch? ...slayer...?" "No!" I exclaimed, with a short laugh, "I am no slayer. I... I have no name for my powers... I can do many things..." I said awkwardly. "An all-round gal." The slayer said with a smirk. I looked at her a little sharply, wondering what had bourght on this cynical nature. "I suppose you could say that." I replied. "I am strong, fast... I am capable of telepathy," I gave her a pointed look, "I can use Magic but have not been fully train in it... and there are a few other things."

I raised my eyebrows. She really was an all round girl. But the magic thing... i could feel the power in her, and when you've spent as long on the craft as i have, someone with that much power having no magical training... it was physically painful. "You want something a little heavier to drink?" I asked, eying her glass of water with a smirk. "I saw the barman turning you down earlier..." "I am only 17." She replied. "And?" I asked. She looked blank. I sighed, rolling my eyes, "Fine, but at least have orange juice or something. Tell you what- i'll even buy it for you. Anyone else?"

I walked in. Pepper, Nicki and Maya - I had being doing that ever since me and Pep's date, putting her first whenever I was making a list of people involving her. - were all grouped around someone, couldn't see who. New person. "Hi." I said as I walked up.

At least new girl was well looked after. But still something...
I saw the vamp i was hunting leave with his next victim. By the looks of things, she was drugged.
"Doctored drinks to," I whispered snidely, moving towards the fire escape and climbing down. "And I thought vampires were normally scum. You're worse than any of the others." I made it to the ground just as he exited. "Put the girl down."
"Or what?" He sneered. I smiled coldly.
"You need to be introduced to the way things work around here," I said.

The strane thing about my mood in recent weeks was that even though i'd been pretty detatched, not hugely caring about the rest of the world, i'd also had my senses oddly expanded, aware of everything... sorta super slayer mode. SO i knew that Doc had been watching us, and i saw the vamp leaving with a limp girl on his arm. I knew Doc could handle the vamp, but considering the shit people put in drink now days, i wasn't half as sure about the girl. "Be right back." I said, stepping away from the group. but then i paused, grinning not particularly nicely back thte the newbie. "In fact- wy dont youcome along? Bring your water." She nodded a little confused, and followed me out. I leant easily against the wall as Doc threatened the vamp, and then punched him. He dropped the girl, and i caught her. Sitting her against the wall, I tapped her cheek a couple of times, but she didn't wake up any. "Like i thought." I murmured. "What?" Asked the new girl." "Drugged." I replied. "I just damned well hope its not mystical." I pulled a vial and a small plastic bag from my pocket. "You got your water?" She handed me the half full glass, and into it i sprinkled a few select herbs and dripped in some of the thick, dark amber liquid from the vial. I stirred it with a finger, and tipped the girl's head back, forcing her to drink the strangely coloured liquid. Then i leant her back against the wall and stood up, heading back for the door.

"Thats it?" I asked, confused. The girl still didn't look well. "What if it didn't work?"

I shot her an indignant look. "It worked." I replied. "How do you know? You cant just leave her here, what if...?" "So what am i meant to do?" I snapped, "I cured her, and now i have a drink to finish." She gaped at me as I continued inside. "But what if she gets hurt cos you just left her?" "I saved her from the drugs- next time aint my call." "But..." "Look, little lady, maybe you're not hip to this world, but people get hurt. me and mine do what we can, but we cant save everyone, ok? I find life a whole lot less painful once you realise that and stop expecting to." I turned quickly, not liking the look i saw in her eyes, and rejoined the group at the bar, not caring whether she followed or not.

"T-pot" I said happily, "This is Vala, shes from another dimension" I said as the girl walked towards us. "What dimension was it exactly" I asked, "I may have visited it sometime". I turned to T-pot. "Introduce yourself" I said, grinning.

Maya looked steadily at me as i rejoined the group, apparently trying to show that she believed all that she had just told me. I heard Peppers, and forced myself to face her and ignore the slayer, saying, "It is the home of the PsÃquico race." I answered her. "It's a beautiful place- none of these huge urban areas, or all this pollution."

"You get used to the pollution eventually, even if it is disgusting..." I mused for a second. "And it might eventually kill you. That's a real downer." I added.

"We had no pollution in my world either" I sighed, "But I think I might have gone to your world one time. Sounds familiar".
"There are bonuses in this world however. In my world even the Queen can't wear clothes or dance."

I nodded as the vampire was reduced to dust. I looked at teh girl, who was beginning to stir. Maya's work, obviously.
I headed back to the rooftops, watching her awake, shake her head, and head back into the club.
"Glutton for punishment," I said dryly. "People can be so stupid sometimes."

"Wow." I commented, trying to supress a smile as Tpot choked on his drink and went very red. "My world was not hugely different from this otherwise though... except for me being the only human, of course." "Hows that?" Maya asked scathingly. "Well, because it's a demon world." I replied. "And you lived there because?" "I was taken there when i was an infant, for protection." "Oh." Maya said, "Because demons are the safest creatures to be around." I glared at her- she was starting to annoy me now. "The PsÃquico are a peaceful race." I snapped, "They cared for me, taught me all i know. I have never known them to harm a living soul! Demon doesnt automatically mean evil you know- in fact the Psiquico have many a time helped people in this world to fight evil demons. They are good people"

"Thanks, Mal," I said as Mal tuned me in through one of the many mobile phones in the Spot. The girl was interesting enough, raised by demons, yet there was a naivete about her, she didn't understand teh nature of the beast. She would get used to it. whether she'd stay sane, however, was another thing.
And for some reason, something was pushing me to make sure she did stay sane.

"If you've never known them to hurt anyone, then they were hiding it from you." I said sharply. "Even the nicest demon on the outside has a darker side..." I laughed mirthlessly, "Even the nicest person has darkness somewhere." I looked around, nad fixed on a group of reasonably new vamps i hadnt seen before. "Screw this," I murmured, "I'm going fishing." I downed the rest of my drink and wound my way through the dancing mass to my target, joining his dance with practiced ease. I sighed, this was gonna be too easy.
