"Yeah, well, last time you lost control, you nearly left a crater where half of LA was," Doc informed her carefully. "so, best hold back on that bit. Keep with your strength, not much you really need to know on that," he gave her a smile. It kind of felt nice to actually play big brother for her. "Just take aim and throw the hardest punch you can. Where Slayer's go,. you're likely to knock the guys head off," he chuckled before looking at her again. "I could, uh, show you some moves once we get to the Planet Library while Mal does his thing. If, y'know... If you want."

My eyes widened involuntarily in shock, while my mind wondered how it was that this guy had seen me in such a vulnerable state, what had caused that, and, slightly annoyingly, why had I not gained better control over 7 years? The way he smiled about my 'strength' though... did that mean that I was good? It seemed as though he had seen me in action and it was worth seeing, and that at least warmed me a little. His offer of help... though my initial reaction was to slap it away, as fast as possible, how dare he suggest I needed his help? ...the way he said it, that nervous smile... the way he was trying to get to know me without being invasive, protect me without being patronising... there was something more to it and I just couldn't quite place it. I swallowed hard, shrugged, and moved my eyes to the front, walking swifting, and only stopping myself overtaking for the previously stated fact that I didn't know where we were going.

"I'll take that as a 'we'll see' then," Doc said with a smirk. Well, it was better than he thought he'd get to be honest. "Alright no... oh, here it is," he said, pointing across the street to where the old bookshop had appeared. "I think he's starting to enjoy showing off a bit. "Coming?"

My eyes narrowed... this place was giving off a massively wiggy vibe. My skin was tingling, the magic within me clearly reacting to the strange store. I followed Doc, my hands balled into fists, every bit of me on edge.

Annie walked in silence behind them, observing the going ons around them. Huge metal creatures were congesting the streets but for some reason the word car came to mind. That must be what they're called. She was a bit unnerved at the idea but knew they weren't dangerous, ridden very much in the same way as a carriage without horses.
The buildings were much taller now, made from a very different material and papers were everywhere, did everyone know how to read here? It was a skill that was very rare in her time and she was taught from an early age. People also wear weird objects in their ears but Doc and Maya gave them no notice so she ignored at as well. Part of her knew they weren't a threat or a demon parasite.
"Obviously we are coming or else we would have parted ways earlier." What a pointless thing to say! It seemed more then obvious that they all intended to go in. Inside might very well have all the answers they were seeking and lead them to whatever caused this and she'd be damned is she was going to back out now. Clinging to the hope that their problem would soon be solved she followed them in to find the familiar smell of musty books which was almost a comfort compared to what lay just beyond the doors.
"Hello Mal," she said being polite to the 'walking library' as Doc had called him.

"Ah, Annie and Maya, welcome back," Mal nodded to both of them politely before turning to Doc. You have more keywords, I take it?"
"Nice to see you too, Mal," Doc muttered, walking past the walking search engine and sitting down. "Yeah, I think we have everything we need. Add these to the earlier look up: worst memory, loss of someone or thing important to you," Mal nodded assuming his usual position.

I crossed my arms, tensing even more. It would be great to recognise the next person that greeted me easily with my name.

Doc noticed Maya tensing, giving her a reassuring smile as Mal began using the keywords. "You alright? You look a bit te..."
"Bingo!" Mal declared, opening his blank book. "I have our perpetrator."
"'Perpetrator? You been readin ghte dictionary again?" Doc joked, earning a glare.
"Santora, the Nightmare demon," Mal read out. "Uses dreams to feed of peoples memories, reverting them to the worst time of their life," the book snapped shut. "you'll find him at hte docks, warehouse 12. Be careful, he's been feeding for sometimes and will be extremely powerful."
"Thanks, Mal," Doc said, nodding ot his companions. "I think we've got this."

"Wait." I said quickly, "You mean, we kill this thing and our memories return, just like that?" Several things were running through my head... how the hell were we going to kill it? Sure I apparently have super strength, but I know sod all about fighting... the only times I had killed demons were... well I prefered not to think about those times.... the other main issue was utter terror of my memories coming back- what if my life had continued along the same lines as my recent memory? What had I seen? What had I DONE?

"Well, yes and no," Mal answered her, which froze Doc before he moved out. "You have to shatter the orb in his chest at the same time as you kill him. A crossbow bolt should do the trick, though if you have any combat spells, Maya..."
"Uh, Mal?" Doc began, shaking his head while making a slicing action over his throat. Mal looked at Doc and thene the slightly confused and terrified look on Maya's face. "Oh..."

"Mal, do you have any swords?" She didn't want to go in without a bigger weapon, sure she had the dagger and the stake she had grabbed earlier but it was always nice to have a sword against a demon. Easier to decapitate them that way and sure you could stab them in the heart but demons had their hearts in weird places.

Mal seemed hesitant for a moment before nodding, leading them to a book case and removing a couple of books to reveal a door knob. He opened the book case/door and revealed a small collection of weapons. "I don't use them myself but I've collected them in my research."
"You never cease to amaze me with the depths you'll go for a look up, Mala," Doc muttered, shaking his head.

Again, my eyes were wide. I had never seen so many weapons, not in real life. This guy must be crazy! The teenage girl inside me was freaking out, checking the exit, preparing to make a run for it, but as it had all day, there was that other, quiet, logical part that was holding me together, that part I didn't wholly recognise. That bit told me to stop being stupid, you knew they were demon hunters, and demon hunters have weapons. This is a good thing. They can protect you. Yah, except they seem to be expecting ME to be doing the fighting! I swallowed nervously, "Um... nice... I guess..." I managed to get out.

Annie watched Maya for a moment before taking a sword from the wall, running a finger over the tip, finding it sharp enough for her purpose. She would only need it until she retrieved her memory and then she could return it. Surely she had her own sword.
"Thank you Mal." She smiled at him though part of the smile was finally having a specific direction to go in, one where she wasn't confused. Soon all of her memories would be back and she could go back to whatever she was in the process of doing before.

Doc squeezed Mayaa shoulder in concern. "Maybe you should sit this on out, Maya," he suggested, offering her a way out. She was scared and didn't know what was going on, or what she could do. Forcing her t go was a bad idea. "Annie and I can handle this. I'm a pretty crack shot myself," though admittedly that's from long range with a high end sniper rifle, but a crossbow at close range wasn't so different.
...He really wished he had something a little more substantial.
