Joan was glad that she was able to borrow the book from the shop and was also gladfor another excuse to get some more herbs. It helped that the shop keeper was nice as well.
"Hello? I'm back!" she called out, not seeing Maya at first, but half of her was expecting her to pop out from behind somewhere. She hadn't seen her for the first few minutes of roaming the shop when she came in the first time. "Maya?"

I was in the back room, pummelling the crap out of a punching bag, when I heard the familiar voice call out from the front. It was odd, but since the memory loss thing, I felt an urge to train extra hard, as though the weakness I had felt then had remained in some way. I pulled on a hoody, and hurried out into the shop, "Hi." I greeted her, "Sorry..." I glanced down at my own rather unproffesional apparel. "Was a slow day."

"Hi!" she smiled, pulling out the book from her bag. "I brought your book back." She held the book out to Maya. "It was very interesting to read a lot of the spells might be useful."
"Not many people coming by?" she asked curiously. Having finally found a decent magic shop she didn't want it to go out of business so soon.

"Oh, no, its going well actually, just quiet today." I smiled awkwardly, taking the book and placing it on the counter. "I dont have that many clients so far but mostly they know what they want and come back regularly. People genuinely interested in magic, y'know?" I paused, frowning, "Except this one guy who just buys loads of pickled newts eyes... I get the feeling he probably eats them...." I shuddered, and focused back on my customer. "So... is there anything you're looking for today?"

"Thats... really gross," Adel said, scrunching her nose. "I can't imagine they taste very good..."
"This is going to sound really cliche but I was hoping you'd have a good crystal ball. My cat broke mine and I really hate ordering ones online cause I can't see them before I buy them so if it's cracked or imperfect I have to go through that whole return/exchange process which ends up just costing me more."

I chuckled, "Not cliche at all." I replied. It was true, for as cliche as it sounded, crystal balls sold well in the genuine magical community... it had actually set me off looking into how exactly you use them properly. "Back here." I lead her to a cabinet at the back. It had a glass front, through which one could see an array of magical objects, including a whole shelf of crystal balls of various types and sizes.

"Oooooo." Adel was looking through the different sizes before finding one of a similar size to her old one. "That one well fit the stand I have just fine."
"So how powerful are you? I mean you probably have a fair amount of control and knowledge since you have your own shop right? I'm newish to it all. I've always been interested in it but never thought it was real until a friend showed me. I mean I'm not terrible but I'm not very advanced either. That and I can be a bit of a clutz."

I smiled nervously, taken aback by the question, "Oh I dunno..." I said slowly, turning my back on her to unlock the cabinet, and pausing to murmur an incantation too quietly for her to hear. There was no way I was leaving stuff like this around without magical protection, but I didn't need my customers to know that, and certainly not what spells I'd used. I carefully removed the orb she had indicated and handed it to her for a better look. "I began dabbling when I was just a kid." I continued my reply to her question, "But I guess it freaked me out a little when I realised just how real it could get..." I paused again, not wanting to say anything that would make her ask more. "I sorta gave it up for a while after that, and now I'm looking into it all more carefully, studying the magicks properly, y'know?"

"Getting the basics taken care of properly so you have a good foundation? Probably a good thing. If someone doesn't have a proper foundation than the whole 'building' might crumble and fall." After inspecting the orb she looked back up at Maya. "This'll work great."
"I also just needed to grab some black berry leaf," she said while theyreturned to the main floor section of the shop, moving over to where the jars of herbs were before finding the herb she needed.

"No problem." I said, quickly resealing the cabinet. I moved to the counter. "Yeh... wouldn't want a collapse." I said thoughtfully, refering to the previous coversation. I decided not to mention that my most recent almost collapse had threatened the entire city...

"You know any thing about vampires?" she asked curiously. "I met one for the first time the other day. Silly me, I thought he was pale because of the recent rain. He was very strange, not quite like I read in the texts I've read."
((She's very... innocent about things. Part of why I enjoy this character. XD ))

Had I been drinking anything at the time, I would have either choked or spat it across the room. As it was I was just my eyebrows, "Yeh, I do know a thing or two about vampires." I replied sharply, "Number one rule is pretty much stay away from them. Not all supernatural creatures are evil, not even all demons are outright evil, but vampires, with a very very VERY few extremely rare exceptions, are. You come across a vampire again, you either run in the opposite direction, or you put a stake through its heart, its really very simple." I hadn't meant to lecture, but it was clear that while this girl knew a fair bit about magic, she was new to this world of monster, nightmares and chaos, and anyone who can calmly say that they thought a vampire was a bit strange deserved a lecture.

"Yeah, well I wasn't meaning I didn't know they were evil jsut the one I met wasn't all 'Grrr, I want to take over the world and break all your necks'. You know?" She knew they were evil but she couldn't blame the shop owner for wanting to make sure her customers remained alive. Kinda hurt business to have your customer geting killed off.

"Did you get a name?" I asked curiously. A vampire that wasn't on the rampage often meant a vampire with a plan- something far more dangerous.

"Gabriel, looks about my age, bleached blonde hair, australian accent," she said, remembering every detail. Of course when it's your first vampire you tend to remember a lot about the encounter.
