"We're working on it." Immediately after she'd finished speaking, Jessy hung up, sighing.

I watched him quietly. "Who was that?"

(((Kayley)))
"Sure, especially if you whine and whinge about. She's sure to come back then," I muttered sarcastically. It was rather fun, to be able to speak out after months of creeping about, silent as a mouse. "You really are going to have to face it sometime soon, Jessy ain't coming back and she doesn't give a rats ass about you in any other capacity but her professional one."
It was weird, but being honest came easier now that Katelyn and Francois were around. I wasn't full out Karen, but I wasn't creeping around, afraid of saying what I thought. I was me, a mixture of the two. In the middle.
Into the swing of it now, I continued. "Even if she did care, she's not going to show it becaue that would clearly undermine the entire point of leaving. Which was to get away from you, remember? Well, I guess you don't, but Rogue ought to. From what I understand, it was her that scared her off. Guess you conveniently ignore that. But you can see how it confirmed her blood is thicker than water theory."
Thing about not saying what you think? You listen a whole lot more. You spot things and you have time to ponder, understand. A little magick doesn't hinder understanding either. I'm not a major player, I probably never will be. But I understood. And right then, I was on a roll. I wasn't going to pull punches, there was no point in keeping the truth from him.
"So, maybe you should get over it. Concentrate on the four kids that you're actually related to, or at least, the three you have contact with before they turn into suicidal nutcases too. Try and improve your track record."

I turned to glare at her. "You wont talk about our children that way," I hissed.

(((And here I thought I was bringing the return of the long post.)))
"Why ever the hell not? They aren't my kids, and last time I checked, none of them were Christ. They're cute, but considering the amount of time you two have spent away from them, I doubt you'd know that. Ash, the slayers and I have done more for those kids than you have. And, also, you may be eight hundred years old, but that doesn't mean you deserve any more respect than I do. Considering that you actually killed people when you were evil, and you still have no soul, I rank a little higher than you."
It was fun to get the cock-sure feeling back, to know that magick was available literally at my fingertips if I wanted to call on it. It was an artificial confidence boost, unlike Katelyn. After a week of dancing and hanging out with her at the Spot, my inner bitch was simply raring to go. Not that this was being mean. I wasn't being mean, I would've really laid into them if I was being mean. This was honesty, not the honey sweet, nothing is our fault version of events that people want to believe.

I had listened to the whole conversation from the doorway, and was tempted to intercede, only i knew that in its own way everything each of them had said was true. I sighed... this was all so fucked up. I felt warmth at my back and turned slightly to look up at Josh. I smiled, and leant back against him. [You ok?] he asked, without saying a word. He knew i'd been sneaking. [... yeh.] I replied, [I've been waiting for you to say that.] [You'll take care of Aila? I wont be gone long.] [Of course.] I turned round, kissed him, and headed for the back way out. It was time to go see if Jessy might talk to me even if she wouldnt speak to Doc...
