"Doc?" I asked. "So, I'm in to some group thing without knowing? Cool."

"What can I say? Jessy can't resist stray's," I joked, rounding the corner. "Mal said you might need some help. 'Scuse me," I pulled out quite possibly the oddest weapon one could use.
"A paint ball gun?" The boy asked. I grinned, pointed at teh one I knew was at his feet and squeezed the trigger, showing the thing in slightly painted glory.
"What else?" I said, trakcing the still moving one's threough Jessy's fight. "I'm no warlock or wizard. Just a guy with some cool toys, advanced training..." my target screamed as a paint ball hit it square in the eyes. "...and the devil's own luck."

"You're that guy." I said. "The one with the daggar that crashed into me."

"You've met? Cool. Now would someone please explain why invisible humans are attacking us?" I kicked out at something.
(((Out of mind, out of sight. Remember?)))

"Thought I recognised you," I muttered. "And no, I don't know what's giong on," I answered Jessy. "And as for these guys," all the invisibles were now paint covered. "Let's ask 'em, shall we?"

I pushed one against the wall. "Can I threaten him, please? Pleasey weasy Doc?" The invisible gave a suppressed giggle. I shifted and growled. That shut him/her up.

"Only if they answer when you ask nicely, Jess," I said, leaning against a wall. "And if they still don't co-operate...well, I do have a few tricks that may work."

I pouted. "Ok. Now, do you want to tell me anything? No? Wrong answer." I shifted and dragged my claws lightly across the invisable's body. "Now, do you feel more chatty?"

"Aren't you a little bit eager to go all 'high inquisitor' on this who-or-whatever, Jess?" I asked.

"Well, I want to be in law, so I might as well practice," I replied.

"Well, I suppose," I said. "It's not all like 'Law and Order' you know. For instance," I picked up one of the invisibles, "How are they invisible?"

"Well, it might be a spell, or a power, like Jack's ring. Or it might be the ignorance syndrome." I grimmaced.

"Too many, no Hellmouth," I said, "unless they're out of towners. So, that leaves us with either a spell or object. You're the shifter, can you use any other form to detect somehting like that?"

"I could try. There's something a shifter can do, it takes a lot of concentration and energy and mental strength, but they can let the spirit of the form have more power over them. Now, let's see. A good detector of magic is..." I shifted into a rat. (((3rd person))) For a long time the rat just sat there, eyes shut. Then it scurried towards the invisible, quite happy to sit by it. (((1st Person))) I was quite happy when I returned to my body. It's not nice, letting an animal run round your mind. "So, was I near it?" Doc shook his head. "That can't be right. I mean, rats hate magic. Looks like this guy had the least on him, maybe none."

"The only other thing I can think of is light refraction technology," I said. "But that hasn't even left the drawing board."
