There was something in her eyes. Shock, maybe, i don't know. "Alright," I said coolly. "We won't hurt you if you don't hurt us. Now, let's see the real you, huh? What do you say?"

I shifted back into my original human form. Doc was here! maybe these people would help me find someone to eat after all.
"Doc" I shouted in glee and ran to him, hugging him. It had never felt so good to see my evil compainion.

I grabbed the tranquliser as Pepper2 leaped on Doc. I couldn't let him get hurt. I fired twice, one hitting the pavement the other hitting the target.

"Just trust me," I said. "A souless Pepper's bad enough. But if she was under the wing of some alternate me, and he was Francois, this could get bad. We better get her to the Dojo. We can hold her there, at any rate, til we can figure out what teh hell's going on."

Chimera sat, or rather slumped, between Pepper and me. I was still holding the tranquiliser but I couldn't use it with good concience at such short range.
