It was getting close to nightfall, but in the back of my mind I swear I could almost feel Mai approaching. I had just about everything ready too.
I had been worried about what Jessy and Tucker and the Charmed Ones would get themselves up to, but not enough to actually go and find out. I had too much to do, and I could trust both the Charmed Ones and all my friends to safeguard all the people we had rescued earlier.
I was on the second floor, lighting the last of the candles when I felt the surge of psychic energy, and a resounding telepathic call to all in the building <HONEY! I'm HOME!> in Mai's voice. I smirked, but kept focused to my task, but did take the time to greet my future date and inform her and Nicki as to my whereabouts.
It was almost time...

"Hey, you lot," I said, looking at the guys we had rescued earlier as I set a box down. "Go get some of the stuff out of the van."
"Why should we?" One guy, werewolf I think, asked. I smiled as I opened the box, revealing some of my more destructive weapons.
"If you don't, you don't get to play with any of my toys," I said. "Where the hell is X? Or Joshua? Or both?"

I ran out of the kitchen as I felt the wave of joy that was Mai nearing Josh. Well, at least I supposed it was. I ran up to Mai and hugged her. Not the most mature thing to do but she was comforting after my ordeal with Tucker. He was smiling, I noticed, at Nicki and it wasn't until later that I figured it out.

"Back in a sec." I told Doc, unloading a couple of boxes with a flick of a wrist. I smiled comfortingly at Jessy, feeling her angst, and headed off to find Josh. When i reached the room he was in, i leant again the doorframe,
"Hey." I said. He looked up,
"Hey." He replied, eyeing the armour. I was SO glad it was back to non-cartoony. As our eyes met, i frowned- i could feel something distinctly wrong. "Mai?" He asked. I shook my head,
"Whats going on?" I asked accusingly. "What aren't you telling us?" I had always had a distinct talent for knowing when something was being held back.
"Mai..." He began defenively.
"Tell me." I snapped.

"You're wearing the armor," I observed.
"Yeah, Doc had it hidden away, said he was gonna give it to me for my next birthday, so what?" she snapped in reply.
I calmly stepped to the side so that she could see the three concentric circles of candles I had set on the floor, along with a pentagram in white paint set between the circles and symbol in dark red at the center of the pentagram.
"What's all this?" she asked.
"It's almost time," I said. "Remember? I figured it would be kinda hard to forget it, but still . . . We're going back, and I know you aren't the only one going with me. Oh," I walked over to a book and a file folder that I had gotten from the Owner's office, "And I found out what is going on here."
"Really?" she asked, and then what I said finally made sense in her brain and she repeated, sounding more excited, "Really!"
"Yep, really," I answered with a smile. "The cubes, there are 4 of them, are scattered around the city. They're actually what is protecting us, the supernatural entities of the city. So no destroying them. But we do need to collect them and work it so that they include the normal people as well."
"Well, what *IS* going on if these cubes aren't causing it?"
"The end of the world," I said, as if it could be anything else.
"Near as I can tell, the Owner, whoever or whatever he is, knew that whatever this is was coming. It's some kind of natural cataclysm which weakens the walls of the dimensions in an area along the lei lines of . . ."
When I saw Maya's eyes begin to glaze over, I summarized, "Basically what sent everybody away is the equivalent of an Interdimensional Hurricane. The cubes are devices the Owner set up to create an aritifical Eye of the Hurricane. Unfortunately he could only set it for supernatural entities, which further unfortunately include demons."
"The good news is, from what I've read, everybody is safe, just in the wrong dimension. Once we get the cubes from the past, since so far we've only been able to find the one, that means that us of the future go back to the past and collect all of the other cubes. Then we bring them back here to the future, or the present by now, and we get the Owner to adjust them so normals are included in the protections. After that, when the cubes stop glowing, the 'Hurricane' will have passed and End of the World averted."
"Cool, so let's get going," Maya said, stepping forward.
"Not so fast," I stopped her. "Like I said, we're not the only ones who will be going to the past."

"Why not?" I frowned, "Who else? It was just us before. Joshua, if we change it, theres no telling what could happen!"
He looked bored, and i looked pissed.
"Who?" I asked shortly.

"Me," I said, walking in.
"Huh?" I smiled.
"I can be a sneaky bugger when i want to."
Flashback
"You can come out now," I said. I was heading to the entrance to the Labirinth and I knew I was being followed.
"I forgot how soon you caught me," future me said, walking out.
"Reason for being here before I rip your face off, whoever you are," I growled. I was two years older, two years wiser and two years stronger. Look alike or not, he tried anything, he was toast.
"Danoc sends his regards," I froze and the soul of my other self almost exploded. Danoc was the one that killed Nicki in that other timeline. No one else had even heard of him yet.
"You've got my attention."
"Before Danoc can kill Nick, it needs a body. It's going for Des. One hour ago, her apartment."
"Thanks for the tip."
"Gotta watch our girls."
Now
"Isn't that pushing it?" Maya asked.
"You guys need time to find the cubes, grab the CO's and meet yourselves while I stop Danoc and save Nick-Nack," I said. "We need all the time we can get."

My feet were rooted to the spot as I stood against the wall, not making a sound.
For a second I ran over everything I had heard and then pushed it to the back of my brain, forcing a smile on my face and gripping my soul saber. Defiantly I wandered into the room like nothing had happened
'Hey guys... I thought I'd come and find you, see what the battle plan is. Jessy and Tucker are giving me a serious headache with all the flirting taking place'

"Screw the charmed ones." I snapped, "I'm killing the bugger that's trying to hurt Nicki."
"Mai, you can't change what happens." Doc said, "You must go with Joshua to find the charmed ones, or the butterf..."
"I dont care about butterflies!" I cried. Nicki looked a little happier at the fact that i was getting so worked up. Joshua slipped his arms around my waist from behind, and it took all i had not to just lean back against him... but i didnt pull away either.
"Maya." He said softly, "It has to go this way, and you know it. Otherwise... lord knows what could happen. We might ALL die."
I sighed,
"I know."
"I'll take care of Nick-nack." Doc said, nudging her. I nodded slowly.

I walked into the room and looked at all the worried faces turned towards Nicki. Shapeshifters can tell when someone's not feeling themselves so I ran over to her.
"Nicki, what's wrong?" I felt as though something was tearing a bit of my heart away with all the worry I was feeling.

"You are NOT gonna die." I said. "Hear me? It's not happening. We'll go back a hundred times if thats what it takes, but you are not gonna die."

'I know, I know. You'll protect me and reverse time and I'm not going to go wherever it is you go after much fighting and death, but in some other time or dimension or universe or whatever I'm probably already dead. Don't you find that the least bit weird and scary?'

"You wanna count the number of times i'm probably dead? Hell, i wouldn't be surprised if this is the only dimension in which i'm alive..." I trailed off, counting things off on my fingers... "Yep... it think i'm officially dead at least twice a week. This dimension is just cooler than the others, so it had to keep me." I grinned.
