"Ordinarily I'd say yes," I said, looking at the page. "However, that man of yours has pulled himself out of more trouble than I care to remember. I've got this strange feeling he's up to something."

I laughed a wet, bitter chuckled, and said, "I usually have a feeling he's up to something... but he's dying, Doc- that i can feel... recently, we've ad this... connection... its like nothing i ever felt before... What if he doesnt have anything else up his sleeve?" I asked, returning to the bed, wrapping my arms around Joshua's shaking body once more.

"Since when hasn't he had a 'Plan B'?" I asked, looking over at him. "He also has more lives than a cat. Trust me, he's up to something," I lowered my voice. "He wouldn't just leave you. He loves you too much."

At Doc's words, the book in Maya's hands suddenly opened all on it's own, the pages flipping wildly and quickly until they came to something near the back of the book. Doc quickly came over and looked over Maya's shoulder as they both read the delicately painted text.
"Mirah Nal Komusana: The Spirit Gates Open to Time" and in a small subtitle just beneath the heavy text; "The Funeral Rites to a Time wizard aka" and in even smaller, but still readable text; "How to open the gates to the Crossroads before you reach the Ghost Roads".
And at the bottom of the page, on a simple post-it note, in Joshua's handwriting, was written the words "Crossroads = Rebirth. (Heart) U Mai!"
On the page itself, with painted illustrations, were step-by-step the ritual itself and what it required, all of which could be found in Joshua's room.
However the very last step cause Maya to suddenly burst into even louder tears. The spell, for all intents and purposes, can only be "cast" at the moment the soul in question passes on.

((Dude, this doesnt work!! If you're talking that he hasnt crossed over cos its in the saber, that makes no sense, cos everyone thinks hes dead and gone permanently, and you cant just rewrite stuff that has already been written, Josh! You seem to have your own little story going here, but the point of these rpgs is that it all comes from loadsa different people,. you cant just manipulate it all to what YOU want! rewriting what Doc said, and now this- sorry to say, but you're in for it big time, mate.))
"What does that even mean!?" I cried, "That it has to be done the second he dies?" "I guess..." Doc said. "But i dont have all that i need, i dont have time!" "Just calm down, ok? We have time, he's not going anywhere yet!" Even as he said it, Joshua broke into another bout of shakes, crying out in pain. "No!" I cried, trying to stop his wrenching, but. his eyes wide, locked with mine, he gasped, finally becoming still, and flopping back on the bed. "Josh?" I asked, shaken. "Josh? Joshua!?" I shook him, shivering all over, "Joshua! Joshua, NO!" Doc pulled me off him, pressing two fingers to his friends throat, then his wrist, then putting his ear to his mouth. Doc turned to me, eyes wide in shock, "Hes... hes dead." Doc said. "No." I gasped, shaking my head, but as much as i argued, i knew it was true. I had known it the moment it happened... Joshua was dead. His soul had left his body.
((and thats only the beginning...))

(((<sigh> My character would never say this, buy you are wrong Maya. I am not "manipulating" anything. He will die... I just wanted THEM TO ACTUALLY TRY AND SAVE HIS LIFE BEFORE HE FINALLY *DID*!!!! Taking away his pain and trying to sacrifice theirs for his was only the first part, and I expected it of everybody, hence my coming up with the "deal". Next I expected everybody to try and use magic, rituals and cleansing and shit like that or stuff that would transfer his "essence" to being that of "this" timeline before finding out its either too late or can't work and *THEN* after everything in everybody's imagination has been tried thoroughly and the lesson of "Consequences" is learned, THEN he dies and moves on.
Nobody was coming up with anything, so I cast in a "last ditch" spell that I was kind of hoping you to say "NO! There's got to be some other way first! I'll find it no matter what!!" and then we could start having fun with trying to save my life. Me occasionally throwing in road blocks to make people think of whole new things that makes it even cooler.
Now I've got to up and cheat again.)))
(((Unless you want to 'Modify' your last post in which case I would most certainly modify this one.)))
Suddenly, Joshua started breathing again, but at the same time his hair started growing at an incredible, unnatural rate, along with his fingernails and the rest of his body actually.
Then, just as suddenly, the effects reversed themselves and Joshua went back into convulsions, which suddenly seemed like they were on hyper-rewind, until he suddenly froze, and then it was like he passed out or something as he suddenly went limp again, his breath shallow, sometimes stopping, sometimes hyperventilating, other times so slow it was like he was doing it on purpose.
"What's going on?" Maya whimpered, biting her nails with nervousness and fear.
Before Doc could answer, the book in her lap suddenly flashed with light and began to glow again. Before they knew it, Joshua's voice, minus the R2D2 hologram, came from the book again, answering Maya's question.
"That was a minor time distortion. Time is gonna be a little wonky around him for a while. He may in fact die several times, only to have it instantly reversed or he may be cold and rotting away like the Mummy for over an hour before he reverts back to infancy and grows up in a matter of seconds. He'll be unconscious as this is happening as it is a result of him being unable to consciously control how his magic affects his surroundings."
"Do not worry," the book told them after a short pause, "there is no danger to you. And this... phenomenon which is killing him, it will not finally kill him until his body is erased from existance, and there is no telling when that could happen."
"Erased from existance?" Doc repeated.
The book answered the question as though it were not merely a repition however. "That 'molecule' stretching, entropy thing? That's the universe tearing his body apart because his body is not supposed to exist in this timeline. Until it finally leaves nothing left, not even a ghost, he'll remain here, and there may be a chance to save him... But if there is such a way, such knowledge does not exist in the pages of this grimoire."

((You cant bloody do that josh! When stuff happens on the site, you cant just erase it cos you dont like it!! Remember when you first had josh kiss maya? I totally FREAKED, ask Ate. But i went with it, and played along- thats the point, ITS A GAME!!! You've already said Joshua is gonna die so bloody well let him, dammit! And dont think im the only one who gets annoyed with you trying to make everything work your way.- wanna list!? Every time someone displays a power you dont have, you suddenly make josh develop it, or increase your power some other way, like the slayer strength, astral projection, mind control, telepathy- it makes it incredibly boring if everytime something comes up Joshua says, oh thats ok, i found this new power this morning, i'll do it. -get over yourself and play the game. ))
"Ok..." I said, feigning calm, "If this is how it is, then i can make time... i can do the spell!" "Maya... thats big mojo." Doc warned. "This is joshua!" I cried. He nodded, "I'll help." I grabbed the book, noting evreything i would need, and disappeared for a moment, appearing again with the piles of supplies. I looked at Doc, who was frowning at the book, "It says we need an urn of osiris." "What? No... but, hes not dead!" "Its what it says." Doc shrugged. "No." I replied, shaking my head. "You know what it is?" He asked. I nodded, "It isnt. There are no more... and that kind of powerful magic... we cant create another, even joshua wouldnt be able to nab one from the past because they arent like that... if we need one... i cant help him..."

(((Funny. I always thought of this a really fun way of writing really cool and fun stories. But if we're talking "game"......)))
Suddenly everything stopped.
Ate showed up for another breath of a second before she showed a confused look on her face, and then disappeared again.
Joshua, confused as well, and now awake and surprising himself in not being in any pain, sat up and looked around, even more startled and nervous when he saw that Doc and Maya were equally frozen.
"Wha---?" he started to ask, but the answer was given before he could.
"JOSHUA! DOST THOU KNOW WHY THINE SUFFERS?" a booming overhead voice shouts down at him. Actually, it was more like a whisper, but to his ears the voice was literally booming.
"Uh, yeah," Joshua timidly answered, sweating even worse than when he was convulsing in pain.
Suddenly, it was like time and space were ripped apart in one corner of the room, like somebody yanking a curtain from behind to pull it open so they could step out front.
Then the "person" in question appeared. He was about 7 feet tall, dressed in ancient Grecian armor, was obviously Greek himself, given his skin, hair and eyes, but there was an unmistakeable aura of power around him that made him strangely all-powerful-like.
"k-k-k-k-k-k . . . Kr-kr-kr . . . Cro-cro-cro . . . Cronus . . .?" Joshua stuttered on his bed where he started to shake again, this time in fear rather than pain.
"Kid," the Titan said in a more modern voice than the booming one earlier, "do you have *ANY* idea what kind of crap-loader you've gotten yourself into?"
Gulping, and trying to wrap his mind around the fact that the being he was Avatar to was *IN* his room with him, talking like a boss and employee at an Accountant Firm, Joshua just sat there for a couple seconds before he actually came up with the nerve to talk.
"Uh, well, yeah, kinda. I am dying the most painful death the universe can offer," he glibly remarked.
Cronus sighed and rolled his eyes walking around the room once before stopping to glare at the Time Wizard once more. "Kid, just how freakin STUPID are you anyway!!!!"
He sighed again and ran one hand through his hair, obviously trying to reign in his temper and think things through. "You know," he finally said, "You probably even had some kind of plan to get sent to the one afterlife where you could escape as some kind of ghost or wraith or something that would let you come back to earth, with even *more* power."
"The Crossroads," Joshua answered, not about to hide anything from the very being that gave him his power.
Cronus snorted and threw his hands up at the heavens, "OF COURSE! The Crossroads. Connecting *EVERY* single reality, dimension, sub-dimension, life, afterlife, planet, and THING in the entire omniverse!! Well sorry to disappoint boyo, but that is not happening this time. You've skirted the edge before, but . . . you finally crossed the line where not even I can help you. And don't think that little deal with the Powers That Be is going to get you anywhere once your body finally passes on. They're only protecting their own interests, keeping these little friends of your from giving their own lives to try and save your selfish little carcass."
"Why are you here?" Joshua finally got the courage to ask, sounding awed and afraid of the answer at the same time.
Cronus sighed once more and then answered simply, "You broke one of THE rules kid. It turned out OK, and without any 'above' interference, but you still broke the rule. And you have to pay the consequences. No taking your punishment and still getting the girl at the end, no slap on the wrist and back to class, and no 'now you've been warned'. I'm just here to make sure you understand."
"Understand what?" Joshua asked before he suddenly was wracked by pain the likes of which no human has ever experiences. Cronus disappeared and everything started anew.
(((There, that should make somebody happy. Joshua is getting punished for his "cheating")))

"Easy there," I said, running possibilities through my brain. Osiris... an Egyptian God... the has to be something that we can use. But what. What can I...?
"Ra!" I said suddenly.
"Huh?"
"I've got a Rod of Ra back at the Dojo. If I remember correctly, Ra was more powerful the Osiris. Maybe we can use that as a replacement!"

(((For the record, not to say 'no' or anything like that, but just to say "these are facts, please note if you would like to change them around to fiction".
Ra is the King God of the Egyption Pantheon. He is also the Sun God. Wisdom, life, foretelling, stuff like that.
Osiris, because of being killed and resurrected by his father Ra, is God of the Underworld and Mummification, hence the term "Urn of Osiris".
Just thought you'd like to know. ;D )))

I slowly shook my head, "No." I said. "Maya, Ra is pretty damned powerful..." "It wouldn't work." i said a little more firmly, "The urns of osiris, i've studied them extensively, and they're very specific. If the spell requires one, it HAS to have one, nothing else will do." Tear dripped down my cheeks as i wracked my brains for any other way. I squeezed Joshua's hand, and mentally said, [What other way is there?] Though i knew for certain he didn't have the strength to answer. [I love you, Joshua, so much. So much that i would lay down my own life if it would help you now... i tried, and you wouldn't let me...] Outloud, i murmured, "If you die on me, i'll kick your ass." Though i knew it was a pointless phrase.

I had nothing. NOTHING! All of my resources, all my money, everything I knew, all of it was dust. It was like being in that shipping container again.
"There has to be something," I growled. "I won't be helpless like that again. I won't!"

"There is... there is something..." I said uncertainly. "I... i dont know if i have that sort of power though... as far as i know, only willow has ever done it...." "What?" Doc asked. "She... she called on Osiris without ritual, tried to skip straight past the urn and all that... I can try..." "Maya... that sort of thing could kill you!" "I know." I said, looking up at him with tearful eyes, "But i cant not try!" I bowed my head, and reached within myself for any once of strength i could find. Suddenly my head snapped back, and i cried out, "Osiris! Come!" I heard an awful roaring sound in my ears, and what looked like a great Grey head appeared in the room. "Sh*t" Doc murmured. [glow=red,2,300]WHO DARES TO SUMMON ME!?[/glow] The head bellowed. "It is I." I replied, "This man does not deserve to die- you cannot take him" [glow=red,2,300]Ah... but that man must die. He has broken the laws of the universe, and taken the toll of another on his soul- he will die now, and there is nothing anyone, let alone a pathetic being such as you[/glow] "I summoned you!" I yelled, "I must have some power! Save him! I order you to save him!" That awful voice laughed, and he said, [glow=red,2,300]You cannot order me to do a thing, worthless being. Your love shall die, and you shall watch.[/glow] "NO!" I wailed. The ghostly head surged towards me, passing through me as it faded. I screamed, and Doc rushed to me, as a horrible feeling of the worst possible cold and terror passed through me- the essence of the god i had summoned. "I can't help him." I gasped once more as Doc held me.

I heard her.
The pain, the agony . . . the guilt . . . none of it mattered, nothing matters.
Because I heard her.
With a force of will I never knew I had, I opened my eyes and forced them to work for me. I looked around until I saw a body next to mine. I focused, and focused, and focused until my eyes focused on my Mai.
She looked like she was in pain, more than the emotional pain I knew she was going through because of me. I had to help.
***3rd Person***
Joshua's arm snapped out and grabbed Maya's right arm, bringing hers and Docs attention back to their friend. Then Maya's faced scrunched up in pain as Joshua's grip tightened and was not letting go.
"Joshua . . ." she whimpered.
***1st Person***
I knew I didn't have enough time. Not enough strength. The pain was too much.
With monumental effort, with more strength and force of will than I ever knew I had, than I had ever believed I had, I gave her what I believed to me my final words to her. However I hoped . . . I hoped they wouldn't be.
***3rd Person***
Maya stopped struggling against the painful grip Joshua had on her arm when she noticed that his eyes were actually focused on her not beyond her in pain.
"Joshua . . . ?" she whimpered again, but different this time.
"Mai..." he croaked. "My Mai . . . Luv you! I love you! I . . ." he gasped and groaned out as another wave of pain rolled off of him, but he was obviously fighting to keep talking.
"Oh Joshua! I love you too! You hear me! I LOVE you TOO!" she cried, holding his other hand with hers.
"I've . . . always loved . . . you," he gasped out. "Always, from the first . . . time I met you . . . loved you. No matter what, no matter what happens I will always love you. I . . . ARRGH!! ARrrr! If I can, I swear Mai, my Mai, I SWEAR! I swear I'll come back to you! No matter . . . WHAT! I'll come back! I won't leave you alone! You're my . . . soulmate, our connection . . . I'll find you, come back to you . . ." Joshua's speech was interrupted by another wave of pain, which was highlighted by his body being stretched in several ways, parts of his legs and torso seemed to fall to molecules and being stretched away from him forever.
Then it finished and Joshua was left gasping, but his hand still gripped Maya's arm, tighter than ever. It took a moment, but his eyes refocused on her and he continued where he left of.
"I love you . . . I'll come back to you. I swear. No matter . . . WHAT!! I'll come BACK to you MAI! I--ARRGH!!"
His entire body convulsed again and again his body was stretched almost to infinity and when he snapped back to normal, even more of his body had disappeared into entropy, and he arm had gone limp, now unconscious, but still twitching in obvious, ongoing pain.
(((I'll let you guys decide when he finally dies, but there still must be the lesson learned by all involved that there are consequences to everything.)))
