"In terms of this world..." I said unsteadily, "I was born on the 30th of September... this year."
Maya gasped strangely- i wasn't certain she would stay standing long. I grasped the pendant that hung about my neck, desperately confused, almost fighting what was as clear to me as it was to them... but was it possible?
"When my daughter was born...." Maya said, "Her godmother gave her a pendant..." She trailed off, And i froze. After a moment's pause, I pulled the blue stone out from under my shirt. Maya stared at it for a moment, and then collapsed....

"Maya," I rushed to her side, holding her gently and looking up at Vala. Or more specifically, the pendant. "O-oh my...that's...you," I kind of felt like fainting myself. "Aila?"

I gazed up at her stunned face- how could i have been so stupid? So blind? I had been so bound by my own misery that i hadn't bothered to follow my own thought processes, from teh feeling of innocence and recognition to what they really meant... how could i not see it in her eyes? Joshua's eyes... but then only moments later they were different... they changed... now they were dark... i choked a little sob- they were my eyes...

I couldn't take my eyes fom them. How did they know that name? No one had called me that in years... My guardians all called me Vala... but my teacher had once told me more than she was meant to about my former life... i knew the pendant had come from my godmother- and actual goddess. And i knew that my given name was Aila. And i knew my powers came from my parents... the strength due to 'an unconventional turn of events'...
"How...." I gasped shakily, "How can you know that name...?" Strange how denial always over rules logic. How could Maya be my... i'd spent nearly a week with these people.... how could...
"You're..." Doc repeated. Then he blinked, looking up a little, and said, "Mal?"
"You are correct." Came the voice of the computer. "Her DNA matches."
"You knew." I gasped. "That first day... you... you scanned me..."
"Yes."
"Then why didn't you tell us!?" Doc siad through gritted teeth, half desperate, half angry.
"Because there are somet things you must discover for yourself- the same reason Aila's guardians did not tell her the truth."
I starred at Maya, held carefully in Doc's strong arms, as she starred back at me with tearful longing. I knew from the others that Maya was extremely strong, but had been broken over and over by recent events...
"You... you are my mother?" I managed to say.

I pushed Doc away, standing shakily. I crossed the floor to her, taking in every detail of her face, scanning her aura- Mal was right, of course. I could feel it. I reached out, touching her face gently. I smiled, and she smiled softly back. Then i pulled her into a hug, and we clung to each other, tears rolled down both of our cheeks.
"Oh goddess, Aila. Oh goddess, my baby."

"Damn," I muttered, managing to get to my feet. "Son of a..." I gave a dry chuckle, an action that brought a strange look from both my sister and my...damn, my little niece was back. "Well, doesn't that just fit into the family's wierdness. I guess I should reintroduce myself. I'm you're uncle. Geez, I never thought I'd get to say that again."

I chuckled, sniffing back more tears.
"Hi." Said V... Aila, with a shy smile. I looked her over, my mind still not quite caught up to what my heart and soul knew. I frowned a little.
"You're 17." I said.
"Yeah...?" Aila replied, frowning herself. I raised one eyebrow.
"Huh. My daughter is two years younger than me." I siad with a short laugh.

I laughed too,
"How bizarre." I thought out loud. "I'd never considered that... I mean, i knew that i would be... but... how odd."
Maya looked sad all of assudden.
"I missed your whole childhood." She said.
"It wasn't much to see." I promised.
"I never had the chance to help you through your problems... to do anything that parents are meant to do..."
"It's ok..." I tried to sooth her, "It wasn't your fault!"
"I..." She said vaguely. I smiled suddenly.
"You can see it." I said. She frowned,
"WHat?"
"Look in my mind." I said, "They told me about your powers- take a look, see what you missed."
But Maya shook her head, and then smiled,
"Tell me." She said.

"Ah man," I said suddenly. The two girls looked at me. "I just realised. We've taken a turn into Angel territory. This is almost exactly what happened with Connor."

I snorted a laugh, while Vala looked blank.
"Except." I said, "That i'm not a vampire, neither is Josh, and Aila isn't psychotic or planning either of our deaths.... i hope."
She shook her head fervently, smiling wryly,
"Who's Connor?" She asked.
"Ah, seems i have a lot to tell you too." I said with a grin, "Angel is a vampire with a soul. He had a one night stand with his sire, and unbelievably, she got pregnant. She killed herself to save her child- bit of a long story- and thus Connor, Angel's son, was born. Connor got kidnapped and taken to a hell dimension where time goes much faster, and turned up only months later- eighteen years old." I grinned, and shrugged, "So Doc's right, this is pretty similar, as far as mystical pregnancy and speedy aging goes."

I had arrived at the Dojo round about the time Maya had suddenly burst into tears and grabbed the new girl... Vala? Too many new girls. But anyway, I'd waited for a little while until it looked safe to step in.
And I did.
Walking in I gave a half smile and looked at the mass of emotion in front of me. Suddenly my decsion to disturb that didn't seem like such a good idea
"uh, I can come back later. If it's a bad time or something..."

"What kind of shock?" She asked. I looked at Maya.
"You want to tell her?"

Maya smiled through her tears,
"Uh, yeah, sure. Um... Nicks... Vala was technically born only a few months ago, here in LA. She was taken to another dimension by her gaurdians, demons. She never knew her real parents, who she inherited a loada powers from- wicca, super strength, time manipulation." Nicki frowned at this, but Maya grinned, "Look at the pendant, Nicks."

I looked at the pendant and laughed. Not not laughed, giggled. This was freakin' insane! And she was all grown up.. Very grown up. But she was lost... My head hurt and I giggled again before turning my gaze to Vala or as I now knew her name to truly be,
"Aila?" I paused. "Wow now I think about it, there's a definate lookey-likey thing going on with you... And you're so big now!" I shook my head. "Please someone stop me before the babbling takes me over."

I chuckled, hugging the babbling witch/werewolf, and grinning.
"Yup, all grown up and alive and well, and happy and beautiful and..." I detatched myself from Nicki and rasied an eyebrow at her, "Ok... i had no idea that babbling was actually contagious."
