"I..." Faith began, angry, but cooling cos she knew she was being errational. "Urgh... i know, D, i know. Its just... is she there?"
Maya frowned as Doc glanced up at her and said,
"Yeah."
"Well then i guess i'll have to talk quiet... but when i firrst met Maya, she was... in a bad state. And thats an understatement. She didnt give a shit about anything becuase she had lost everything and everyone she had ever cared about. If she had known that she had family still... it woulda been very different- she's needed you for a long time, D."
"I dont think..."
"No, screw the modesty, Doc." Faith snapped, "Maya is one of the mentally and physically strongest people i know, but she..." She sighed, "She has a tendancy to do exactly what I do when i hurt- she shuts everyone out and convinces herself she needs no one. But she does, Doc. I guess its just that i've thought so many time that if only she hadn't lost everyone... and now i find out that she hadn't, she just didn't know it.... you get me?"

I hadn't liked to say anything, hadn't wanted to interrupt this family gathering. i felt like an intruder, an extremely jealous intruder so whilst Doc was on the 'phone to Faith I tapped Maya on the shoulder.
"I'm just gonna go." I whispered indicating the door.
"BUt-" She said looking confused.
"Just tell Doc I'll see him later k?" i asked. "He needs to spend time with his family."

"Would you believe me if I said i knew the feeling?" I said, running my hand though my hair. "Trust me, I've done things...if I'd known about Mai, it wouldn't have happened. Look, I'll take care of her, just...don't do anything stupid, okay?"
"What kinda 'stupid'?" Faith asked.
"Just...Willow's probably going to find some thing's about me or my parents that isn't going to impress you. Just...don't fly off the handle, alright?"

I caught Charlie's hand,
"Hey, Charlie, no way." I pulled her down to sit on the bed, and forced her to look right into my eyes, "You are family as much as anyone. I'm sure Doc feels it- but even if he doesnt, You're my sister. I want you here."
*and with faith and Doc...*
"No worries hot shot." Faith said a little croakily. "Any ranting i did would be pretty hypocrytical huh?"
Doc chuckled hollowly. "Seriously." Faith said, "No matter what has happened in your past, i know damned well taht people can change,and i know you're a good guy. So... dont worry."

"Thanks, Faith," I said. That wasn't exactly what I meant, but sh'ed find out. "So, anyone else want to chew me up before i go?"
"Ha ha, hot shot," Faith said dryly. "Me an' Red are the only ones here. You'll get plenty of more phone calls when the rest of the gang hears."
"Terrific," I moaned. "I better go buy some paracetemol. I have a feeling I'm gonna need it. Talk to ya later, Faith."

I looked around. Gpod, were people blind? Or was it that teenagers could spot emotions a mile off? Anyways it was clear that Charlie was annoyed and jealous of the attention Doc was giving Mai and possibly of the bond between them.

"I'm just gonna go, got a few things to sort out" I said awkwardly. 'Like my head' I thought. It wasn't that I resented this whole family scene...just, well I had no family, I mean I did have but they'd gone and i missed them like crazy, every day. Then I'd found someone, someone who could make up for some of that loss and he was busy finding other people. It wasn't...ok there was some jealousy there but more than that I wondered where I'd fit in this new family which I could never be part of.

I'm an idiot sometimes. Seriously. I should have seen something like this, but just finding out I really did have family...
"Hey," I whispered, gathering her close. "You don't have to go. I probably woudln't have found out the truth if it wasn't for you."
"What?" Charlotte asked.
"Well, if it weren't for you, I would have had no reason to say no to Karen," I said. "Grace probably would have killed Maya, and I never would have found the truth. Besides, like it or not, I love you and what you to be a part of this. An I think not having you here would put a dmapener on the celebrations."
"Flatterer," she muttered.
"Hey, whatever keeps you around a little longer."

"I guess its a good thing I'm not family huh?" I said, giggling at the thought and also at Jessy's manic leaping around.
"Why's that?" Doc asked.
"'Cause some of the stuff I'd quite like to do with you would be very very wrong." I smiled and stood on tiptoes to kiss him, his hands resting on my waist. I heard a gagging noise from smomeone but didn't break off, that was the last thing I wanted to do.
