It was Friday afternoon, about 4 o'clock, I was getting ready for my date with Pepper. "Why don't you put your hair into pigtails?" Asked a voice beside me, I looked down at Tam. She was watching me and giving me advice. "I don't think I want to wear pigtails." I replied.
"Why not?"
"Because I am not trying to scare Pepper away."
"But pigtails are pretty."
"Not on boys."
"Okay." I checked the clock on the wall. "Better get you to Amanda's house."

"Pepper, this is the one. Look, the blue brings out your eyes and the siler and green beading is perfect. Plus I spent $200 on it," I added. I held up the beautiful off the shoulder dress. "Then, the silver eye shadow, a dark lipstick, your sparkly strappy blue shoes. Then put your hair up with these," I displayed some gorgeous hair pins, "and you are done."

"Uh, isn't it a little fancy Jess" I asked nervously. I looked down at my nails. I had been biting them so much that there was hardly anyhting left to paint. My hair was cold and wet feeling, I had just washed it.

"Peps! $200!!!!!" I looked at the dress. It was good, ending just below the knee with a small slit, beading on the skirt, a small dip in the neckline and a larger dip in the back. How could she not see its brilliance?

"Fine" I gave into my friend, slipping out of my night-shirt and into the dress. It fiited perfectly and when I looked in the mirror, it looked good. Really good. I stared at my image. This was the same me who patrolled and fought demons on a regular basis. Wow.

I smiled. "Now, hair time!" Pepper groaned as I heaved my makeup and hair supplies bag onto the small dressing table. "Come on, we only have 3 hours."

"Oookay" I groaned again. "So, what are we gonna do with it". I said, betraying my excitement. "Well?"

I looked at the gorgeous long silky brown hair. "Well, when I had long hair there was this special hairstyle I used to have. It's very simple but you can glam it up. You take the front bits, pull them back and put them up. The rest stays down. It's simple so it wont look like you tried to hard but with the right accesories it looks fabulous. Whadaya think?"

"Great" I said happily. "Come to think of it I remember. You showed me that once. It looked wonderful".

"Where?" I asked, confused.
"A photograph. The one with you and your mum. On the swing."
"Oh yeah." It was one of my favourites. Me with my hairstyle. Mum had worn it too that day. She'd had brown hair too. The blonde was from my dad. "Right, hair pins."

"Ah hair pins" I grinned. "It's all so much simpler where I come from. There ARE no clothes!" I grinned. "Wait that just sounds wrong" I added as an afterthought.

"Mmmm" I said through a mouthful of pins. "Go wash your hair."
"Again?"
"3rd times the best."

"Thanks for this." I said to the person I was talking to, Tam was inside somewhere, playing dolls or something. "No problems, go and have a good time."
"What if I screw up?" That was the main question I was asking all the time.
"You won't."
"If I had a dollar for every time I heard that, I'd have..." I started counting, "Fifteen dollars." I looked at my watch. "Not good. I gotta go, thanks again." I left.
As I got home I looked at myself in the mirror, "Shes gonna laugh in my face, I know it."

I started taking out jewellery. A silver necklace with beading that matched the dress, a matching bracelet and the emerald hair pins.
