(LA Day)Blackmail!

"What if I refuse?" I asked the man sitting in the shadows. I was in some kind of office buildng, I had gotten a call this morning, told me to come to disscuss something to do with the money that I had. As soon as I had walked in I had known that this wasn't any bank.

"You and your sister will be sent off to some orphanage untill you are legaly old enough to be allowed out." He replied.

"That's blackmail!"

"It's the law."

I sat down fuming that he could force me to do this because I was going to protect Tam with my life, I had heard what I would be doing if I had agreed. It sounded easy enough. I did something that I had never though I would do without a lot more fight, I gave in.

"So what's the payment?"

He wrote a number on a piece of paper, it was a good sum. The man was speaking again.

"That and you and your sister will be protected from most things that come with the job."

I said nothing, knowing that I could protect me and Tam well enough, except from the orphanage, I wasn't going to kill innocent people.

"So when do I start?"

"Friday."

"No I don't."

"Yes you do."

"No."

"Might I point out that we decide when you start."

"Not Friday."

"Give me a reason why not."

"I got a date."

"Then cancel it."

"No."

------5 minutes later------

"Your starting on Friday and that's final."

"No."

"Fine. Your more troble then your worth."

"Good."

"Just remember that you can't tell anyone."

"Then I'm gonna have a hard time explaining to Tam."

"Fine but only her."

"I love making adults see things my way."

------yet another 5 minutes later-----------

I exited the building. A least I had managed to stop them from making me do somthing on Friday, my first date in 5 years was not getting canceled. Now the fun part, going home to explain to Tam.

Humans really had to watch what they said when. It doesn't take much to turn a light fixture into a bug, and I had plenty of time in which to make the necessary adjustments. I'm glad Mother had designed the drone. It made things so much easier. The fact that I had softwar taps on all the 'Slayerettes' phones, or anyone that was even remotely important to Doc, helped.

I thought about what i'd heard. TPot did't deserve this, yet i didn't want to tip the blackmailers off. Telling Doc was out of the question. There was only one thing to do.

"Hello?" TPot muttered, answering the mobile Doc had given him.

"I hear you have some trouble," Mal's voice said down the line. "How can I help?"

My apoligies, Jessy," I said, splitting my conciousness so I could talk with both Jessy and TPot. "Something I had to check in on."

"Anything I can do?" Jessy asked.

"I'll let you know when I know. Now, if you follow that stream of data..."

"Ok. Well, you do what you have too Bro." I continued with my work. Hacking was fun.

"Nothing I can't handle." I replied.

"I'm sure you're right," I agreed. "However, if these people get away with it once, there is nothing to say they will not continue to use this to get to you again. In fact, I can see no reason why they wouldn't. At least with help, you can ensure both your and Tam's safety."

I smiled, "I can take care of Tam from vamps and demons and stuff, but do you want to go and fight of social security workers? Anyway, this is giving me some extra cash which I am pretty low on and it should be interesting."

"Hey mal. Do you think Doc will ever adopt me?" I said it offhandedly. As if!

I nearly bumped into Tpot as i walked, and in his stressd out mood i got the gist of the problem immediately. I made a snorting noise,
"Screw social services." I declared. "Doc, Josh, Me- any and all of us will claim responsibility for the pair of you, and kick those badguys to the curb. You dont have to do anything they tell you!"

"I see no reason why he wouldn't," I said. Jessy's eyes nearly popped out of her head. I never understood that sayind. That's physically impossible. "He already thinks of you as his daughter. The only problem would be your biological father."

"Yeah. He'd be all 'How dare you?. Have you any idea how much it cost..' etc."

"It's fine." I said to Maya as I kept walking, social serices didn't bother me, there where others things.

"Tell me." I said simply. I knew he was hiding something, and something i had learn in recent months was that something hidden was generally something bad. Something bad + a friend of mine = pissed off slayer witch. So i just waited for his reply.
