Charlotte was right, she knew, I knew. I had resources though, and right, now, my brain was listing them.
"Protection amulets," I said. "Spells around her house to keep demons out, sanctuary spells. I might have a few things kickin' around to give Joshua an edge, not just in the hand to hand department either. Won't be easy though.

I said, "Which is why is was so scared... and why i didnt tell you guys... i wanted to work out how i felt about it first... i know its not gonn abe easy... most of the friggin city wants me dead for gods sake... but i guess... i'll just have to manage." I'd made this descision already- i had no idea how i'd manage, but my matra was simly 'i will'. "And about protection spells- my apartment is already drenched in them- nothing truely evil can enter at all, demon and vamps, only with invite- even regular people cant get in which out a thorough magickal ... well i guess you could call it a scan- my apartment is safe. As for the extra danger... this kid seems to have some tricks of her own. My powers have been a little jumpy of late, i get kinda surges... i believe that its her. Shes powerful."

"Not to mention the weeks I spent in deep meditation to add my own protection to the mix," I added, breaking my very long period of silence. I had already assumed that Maya hadn't told them all the whole story, and by the looks of it, my assumptions were bang-on.
"That's why you were in a coma?!" Doc demanded, giving me the look. "That much magic can do serious damage!" Trust Doc to get overprotective.
"I know the risks, Doc," I replied, unable to stop my smirk. Sure, it was cute that he got worried, but if anyone should play the overprotective OLDER person here, it was me. No question. "You would've done the same, admit it."
"Fair enough," he muttered.
I just smiled slightly, turning back to Charlotte as Aralin came over.
"This day is yours," she said, a bit quietly. "And it is not only humans who have a custom of giving gifts on birthdays, though we certainly do not give such lavish things as you. Though Aredhel already gave you a gift - a very heartfelt one, I might add - I felt that it would be more proper for me to present you with my own."
She held out an unwrapped longbow with a single arrow. It was plain and yet precious.
"The longbow is the traditional weapon of our people. I know you are skilled with weapons, and that your soul-blade is far greater than anything I could forge for you, but I give you this. Perhaps someday you will find a use for it."

"Whoa," I breathed. Elven weapons were something special. Elven logbows, that was something else. I looked at teh arrow. She'd need more, maybe...
The new reflex, the one that had been bugging me of late, started up again. Not an Itch, not by a long shot, but my mind was filled of ways to make magickal 'trick' arrows. Yeah, this would be good.

((Firstly I'm really sorry if I don't thank people-things just keep happening really quickly))
I could tell Doc was as impressed with the longbow as I was. Everything was dancing in my head and I was losing track but this was impressive. I had come to L.A. with one weapon and no one, now I had three weapons and there were more people celebrating with me than I could imagine. I decided it was time I made it clear what I was thinking and I jumped up onto the stage ((I'm assuming there is one)). It took a little while for people to quieten down but they did finally and I swallowed nervously.
"Uh, hi" I began not too promisingly. "I don't really know how to say this so please just bear with me while I try and burble it out. This is...amazing. I have never known people like you my entire life, people who would go to so much trouble not just for a birthday but for someone else, especially when that someone else showed up ready to kill half of you." There were a few titters from those who remembered that episode but I could see that Del wasn't smiling, I wasn't surprised. "Seriously though you guys have done more for me than I thought possible. You've broken the crazy pattern of my life, slowed me down before I went crazy from everything, from the fighting and the hating. Not only that but you've reversed it. A year ago I would have cringed at the idea of spending my birthday with vampires, werewolves and shapeshifters but today I couldn't think of anything better. Thank you so much for everything you've given me both today as presents and in the last few weeks."

For a moment, no one could speak. Everyone was a little stunned by that, and I, in my bizzarer than ever state, and much to my irritation, found a tear coming to my eye.
"You're welcome, Charlie." I said. I climbed up next to her and hugged her. "Thank you." I whispered to her.

When Mai hugged Charlotte, everybody started to clap and yell. I joined in as well with a drake screem, and got a few weird looks, but right now I really didn't care.

I smiled as maya and Charlotte seperated, coming up behind Charlotte.
"You're welcome," I said, then, pulling her close. "And thankyou for saving me," she looked up confused.
"From what?"
"Myself," before she could ask, I kissed her. Reflex, she's got teh cutest lips.

'Awwww!' I cooed 'So very adorable, but I want to know now if there is anything else I should know about in case of heart attacks. So far I have Doc and Charlotte, Joshua is alive, Pepper is new, Belle is back and Mai's got a bun in the oven'
